Vipers Alumni McNicholas Runner Up For ECHL Player Of The Week:

Former Vernon Vipers forward Michael McNicholas was one of two players that were runners up for ECHL

Fort Wayne's Pochiro named Inglasco/ECHL Player of the Week

McNicholas was suppose to start the 2020-21 season with the ECHL Maine Mariners after re-signing with the Mariners July 6th 2020. The Mariners suspended the 2020-21 season under the league's policy for COVID-19. The Mariners are set to return for the 2021-22 season.

McNicholas spent the previous two seasons with the Mariners, before signing with the ECHL Utah Grizzlies December 1st 2020. McNicholas had one goal in two games with the Grizzlies before being released December 29th 2020.

McNicholas played four years at the University of New Hampshire before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Indy Fuel March 6th 2018.

McNicholas spent one season in Vernon (2013-14) The Vipers traded Aaron Hadley to the Nanaimo Clippers January 10th 2013 for future considerations (Michael McNicholas & Jordan Klimek). In 56 games with the Vipers, McNicholas collected (23-goals-46-assists-69-points). 

McNicholas scored one of the biggest goals in recent Vernon Vipers history. McNicholas scored the overtime winning goal in Game 7 of the interior division finals vs the Penticton Vees March 22nd 2014.

Minnesota Wild Recall Former Viper Hammond From Taxi Squad:

The Minnesota Wild have called up former Vernon

Vipers goaltender Andrew Hammond from the taxi squad.

Hammond is in his first season with the Wild after signing a one year two-way contract December 16th 2020. 

The Wild is Hammond's seventh team since 2017. This is Hammonds second go around with the Wild after Minnesota signed Hammond as a free agent July 1st 2018. The Wild sent Hammond to the minors where he played the 2018-19 season with the American Hockey League Iowa Wild. 

Hammond played last year with the Buffalo Sabres & American Hockey League Rochester Americans. Hammond went 16-12-5 in 33 games with the Americans posting a 2.81 GAA

Hammond played four years at Bowling Green University before signing his first professional contract with the Ottawa Senators March 20th 2013. Hammond made his NHL debut February 27th 2014 vs Detroit. Hammond picked up his first career NHL victory February 18th 2015 making 42 saves in a 4-2 win over Montreal. 

Hammond played parts of two seasons in Vernon (2007-2009). The Vipers acquired Hammond from the Surrey Eagles during the 2007-08 season. In 52 games with the Vipers, Hammond went 33-15-1 with 6 shutouts.

The ECHL Kansas City Mavericks have placed former Vernon Vipers goaltender

Andrew Shortridge on Injured Reserve.

Shortridge is in his first season with the Mavericks. In 4 games this year, Shortridge is 2-1 with a 2.03 GAA

Shortridge become a free agent this year after the San Jose Sharks didn't offer him a qualifying contract in October. The American Hockey League Stockton Heat signed Shortridge to a two-way AHL/ECHL contract December 5th 2020. The Heat assigned Shortridge to the Mavericks December 5th 2020.

Shortridge played last year in the American Hockey League & ECHL with the AHL San Jose Barracuda & the ECHL Allen Americans. In 14 games with the Barracuda, Shortridge went 3-7 with a 3.71 GAA In 10 games with the Americans, Shortridge went 4-4-1 with a 2.81 GAA

Former Vernon Vipers forward Craig Martin has been activated from the ECHL

Commissioner's Exempt list. Martin was placed on the Commissioner's Exempt list January 15th 2021.

Martin is in his second season with the ECHL Jacksonville Icemen. In 13 games this season, Martin has (5-goals-2-assists-7-points). 

Martin started the 2019-20 season with the ECHL Adirondack Thunder. Martin was traded to Jacksonville November 26th 2019. Martin had two points in seven games with the Thunder last year, while collecting (7-goals-14-assists-21-points) in 41 games with the Icemen last season.

Martin played four years at Quinnipiac University before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Springfield Thunderbirds April 2nd 2019. Martin didn't play a game with the Thunderbirds was released before signing with the ECHL Adirondack Thunder July 8th 2019.

Vipers Alumni Herbst Wins First Two Games With Fighting Saints:

Former Vernon Vipers goaltender Reilly Herbst won his first two games

with the United States Hockey League Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Herbst was drafted 62nd overall in Round 3 of the North American Hockey League Entry Draft by the Jamestown Rebels.

The Cyclones announced they have opt out of the 2020-21 season as part of the ECHL's COVID -19 Voluntary Suspension policy. The Cyclones plan to return to play for the 2021-22 season. Coughlin had two goals in nine games with Cincinnati last season.

Coughlin started the 2019-20 season with the ECHL Maine Mariners. Coughlin was traded to the ECHL Norfolk Admirals October 16th 2019. Coughlin played in nine games with the Admirals before being traded to Cincinnati February 20th 2020.

Coughlin played four years at the College of Holy Cross before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Maine Mariners March 15th 2019.

Valin played parts of two seasons in Vernon (1998-2000) In 32 games with the Vipers, Valin collected (1-goal-4-assists-5points). Valin started the 1999-2000 season with the Vipers but only played in three games before finishing the season with the Prince George Spruce Kings.

19 year old forward Tyler Kostelecky has left the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for the North American Hockey League Minot Minotauros. He had seven points in 15 games with the Bulldogs during the 2019-20 season and played 14 games with the Bulldogs this fall during the pre-season.

Vernon Vipers Alumni Tufto Named ECAC Hockey Player Of The Month:

Former Vernon Vipers forward Odeen Tufto has been named the ECAC Player

of the Month for January.

Tufto is in his fourth season at Quinnipiac University. Tufto is the Bobcats captain. In 20 games this season, Tufto has (4-goals-25-assists-29-points).

Tufto played one season in Vernon (2015-16) In 57 games with the Vipers, Tufto collected (25-goals-40-assists-65-points). Tufto left the Vipers for the United States Hockey League. Tufto played one season in the USHL (2016-17) with three different teams (Fargo, Tri-City & Sioux City) before committing to Quinnipiac University for the 2017-18 season.
