Former Viper "AP" Suppin Named AJHL/Eagles Top Rookie:

The Alberta Junior Hockey League presented its league awards for the 2020-21

season. This season, the league recognized one player from each team in each of its five categories. From the Canmore Eagles former Vernon Vipers forward Isaac Suppin was named Top Rookie.

Suppin split last season with the Alberta Junior Hockey League Canmore Eagles & BCHL West Kelowna Warriors. Suppin played in only 2 games with the Eagles & 7 games with the Warriors. The Eagles signed Suppin June 4th 2020 traded Suppin to the West Kelowna Warriors February 24th 2021.

Suppin attended the Vernon Vipers spring camp & training camp in 2019. Suppin played in one exhibition game with the Vernon Vipers in 2019 before being cut/released. Suppin was an affiliated player with the Vernon Vipers for two seasons. Suppin went pointless in 9 games with the 2018-19 Vernon Vipers and had one goal in 4 games with the 2019-20 Vernon Vipers. The AJHL Canmore Eagles signed Suppin June 4th 2020.

Rush Place Ex Vernon Viper Coughlin On Reserve:

The ECHL Rapid City Rush have placed former Vernon Vipers

defenceman Johnny Coughlin on reserve.

Coughlin is in his first season with the ECHL Rapid City Rush. The Rush signed Coughlin February 13th 2021. In 26 games this season, Coughlin collected (2-goals-3-assists-5-points).

Coughlin was suppose to start the 2020-21 season with the ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones. The Cyclones announced they opt out of the 2020-21 season as part of the ECHL's COVID-19 Voluntary Suspension Policy. The Cyclones plan to return to play for the 2021-22 season.

Coughlin started the 2020-21 season with the ECHL Fort Wayne Komets after signing a professional contract with the team January 27th 2021. Coughlin was added to the Komets training camp roster January 29th 2021 but never played a game before being released February 10th 2021.

Coughlin played with three teams last year. The ECHL Maine Mariners, Norfolk Admirals and Cincinnati Cyclones. 

Coughlin played four years at the College of Holly Cross before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Maine Mariners March 15th 2019.

Help Former Vipers Defenceman Jordan & His Wife Fight Breast Cancer:

On November 18th 2019 former Vernon Vipers defenceman Steve Jordan's wife (Breanne Jordan) was diagnosed with breast cancer. One of Steve & Breanne's best friends started a gofundme page in April 2021 to help raise money for the Jordans family.

Jordan played two seasons in Merritt with the Centennials before being traded to Vernon in the summer of 2001. In 56 games with the Vipers, Jordan collected (3-goals-7-assists-10-points). Jordan played four years at Suny-Geneseo University before retiring from hockey in 2007.

Former Vernon Vipers goaltender Reilly Herbst has committed to Ohio

State University.

Herbst finished his first season with the United States Hockey League Omaha Lancers. In 8 games last season, Herbst went 3-2 with a 3.60 GAA

The Lancers are Herbst's third team last season. Herbst started the 2020-21 season with the North American Hockey League Lone Star Brahmas. The Brahmas signed Herbst in early January 2021. Herbst never played a game with the Brahmas was released January 6th 2021. The United States Hockey League Dubuque Fighting Saints signed Herbst in January 2021. Herbst went 3-0 with a 3.33 GAA before being traded to the United States Hockey League Omaha Lancers February 2nd 2021.

Herbst was drafted 62nd overall in Round 3 of the North American Hockey League Entry Draft by the Jamestown Rebels.

Herbst started the 2019-20 season with the United States Hockey League Chicago Steel before being acquired by the Vernon Vipers October 10th 2019. No official details were released on the trade. In 34 games with the Vipers, Herbst went 20-10 with 1 shutout and a 2.91 GAA

Andrusiak played five seasons in the Western Hockey League With Tri-Cities, Seattle, Prince Albert & Everett before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Idaho Steelheads August 8th 2019.

Pieces Of Civic Arena Reclaimed For New Vernon Park:

The new city centre park under construction on the land where the Vernon Civic Arena once stood from 1938-2018 will see pieces from the Civic Arena incorporated into the new city centre park. The Vernon Civic Arena was home to Junior hockey in Vernon from 1961-2001 before being demolished in 2018.

The EC GRAND Immo VSV Eagles are an ice hockey team from Villach, Carinthia, Austria that play in the Erste Bank Hockey League.

Gill played the past two seasons in Germany with the Augsburger Panther. The Panther are a professional ice hockey team from Ausburg, Bavaria, Germany that play in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga League.

Gill played three seasons at Boston University before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers in 2013. Gill played five seasons in the ECHL & American Hockey League with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Wheeling Nailers, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins & Rochester Americans from 2013-2018 before going to Germany in 2018 and signing with the Augsburger Panther.

Gill attended the Montreal Canadians training camp in 2014 and the Pittsburgh Penguins training camp in 2016. Gill played 26 games with the Steel, before returning to Vernon in mid January 2010 where he would finish the remainder of the season with the Vipers. In 71 games with the Vipers, Gill collected (21-goals-30-assists-42-points).

Tulsa Oilers Activate Ex Vernon Viper McNicholas From Reserve:

McNicholas is in his first season with the ECHL Tulsa Oilers. The Oilers are McNicholas's third team this season. In 24 games this season, McNicholas has (3-goals-6-assists-9-points).

McNicholas was suppose to start the 2020-21 season with the ECHL Maine Mariners after re-signing with the team July 6th 2020. The Mariners suspended the 2020-21 season under the league's policy for COVID-19. The Mariners are set to return to play for the 2021-22 season.

McNicholas played the past two seasons with the Mariners before signing a professional contract with the ECHL Utah Grizzlies December 1st 2020. McNicholas had one goal in two games with the Grizzlies before being released December 29th 2020. The ECHL Indy Fuel signed McNicholas January 13th 2021. This was McNicholas's second stint with the Fuel was traded to the ECHL Tulsa Oilers April 5th 2021.

McNicholas played four years at the University of New Hampshire before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Indy Fuel March 6th 2018.

McNicholas played one season in Vernon with the 2013-14 Vernon Vipers. The Vipers traded Aaron Hadley to the Nanaimo Clippers January 10th 2013 for future considerations (Michael McNicholas & Jordan Klimek). In 56 games with the Vipers, McNicholas collected (23-goals-46-assists-69-points).

McNicholas scored one of the biggest goals in recent Vernon Vipers history. McNicholas scored the overtime winning goal in Game 7 of the interior division finals March 22nd 2014 vs the Penticton Vees.

Kansas City Mavericks Place Former Viper Shortridge On Reserve:

The ECHL Kansas City Mavericks have placed former Vernon Vipers goaltender

Andrew Shortridge on reserve.

Shortridge is in his first season with the ECHL Kansas City Mavericks has split this season between the Mavericks & the American Hockey League Stockton Heat. In 14 games this season with the Mavericks, Shortridge is 7-5-1 with one shutout and a 2.93 GAA & in 3 games with the Heat, Shortridge is 1-0-1 with a 1.58 GAA

Shortridge become a free agent this year after the San Jose Sharks didn't offer the former Vernon Vipers goaltender a qualifying contract in October 2020. The American Hockey League Stockton Heat signed Shortridge to a two-way AHL/ECHL contract December 5th 2020. The Heat assigned Shortridge to the Mavericks December 5th 2020.

Shortridge split last year between the American Hockey League San Jose Barracuda and the ECHL Allen Americans. 

Shortridge played three seasons at Quinnipiac University before signing his first professional contract with the San Jose Sharks April 3rd 2019 and an amateur contract with the American Hockey League San Jose Barracuda April 3rd 2019.

Shortridge played one season in Vernon with the 2015-16 Vernon Vipers. In 44 games with the Vipers, Shortridge went 19-25 with two shutouts and a 3.15 GAA

Former Vernon Laker Salmond Wins Gold Medal:

Former Vernon Lakers forward Scott Salmond won

Gold on Sunday at the World Hockey Championships after a 3-2 overtime victory over Finland.

Salmond is Team Canada's senior vice-president. Salmond has been involved with Team Canada from 2001-2021.

Former Vernon Vipers captain Riley Brandt is one of ten former BCHL players

winning a $2,500 scholarship from the Vancouver Canucks Alumni.

Coughlin is in his first season with the ECHL Rapid City Rush. The Rush signed Coughlin February 13th 2021. In 26 games this season, Coughlin has (2-goals-3-assists-5-points).

Coughlin was suppose to start the 2020-21 season with the ECHL Cincinnat Cyclones after re-signing with the team August 12th 2020. The Cyclones announced they opt out for the 2020-21 season as part of the ECHL's COVID-19 Voluntary Suspension Policy. The Cyclones plan to return to play for the 2021-22 season.

Coughlin started the 2020-21 season with the ECHL Fort Wayne Komets after signing a professional contract with the team January 27th 2021. Coughlin was added to the Komets training camp roster January 29th 2021 never played a game before being released February 10th 2021.

Coughlin played last season with the ECHL Maine Mariners, Norfolk Admirals & Cincinnati Cyclones.
