June 13, 1942 – August 26, 2017

Martinus “Martin” van de Leest passed away suddenly in Vernon Jubilee Hospital on August 26th, 2017 at the age of 75. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Adriana “Sjaan” van de Leest. He is also survived by two sons, Hank (Victoria) of Kelowna, BC, and Mike of Penticton, BC; six grandchildren: Natalya, Joel, Maggi, Jenna, (and their mother Ingrid), Jackson and Adriana; and six sisters living in Holland.

Martin was born in Holland on June 13, 1942 and immigrated to Canada in May of 1974. He and Adriana lived in Falkland, Squamish, and Revelstoke before making their home in Vernon for the last 35 years. Martin was devoted to and adored by his family. He was a beloved friend to many and he was a respected volunteer in his community. The impact of his loss will be far reaching.

The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 at 11:00 am with Father Peter Nguyen, Celebrant. A reception will follow at the church.

If friends or family so desire, donations in Martin’s name may be made to Special Olympics – Vernon Branch, or by watching and supporting local amateur sports in your community.
