this is going to be a long season
Once again..no scoring no goaltending no PP. Listened to parts of the game and its the same old thing over and over. Great chances around the net but none of them HIT the net. You can't create any flow with your lines when your in the penalty box 8 times in the game and your goalie has to make a save! Lets hope the new owner has the same amount of patience as some of the "Anonymous" posters or changes could be right around the corner
Remember that there have been injuries, illness and suspensions. It takes times to establish chemistry and for lines to gel. Have some faith in the coaching staff and players. Support goes a lot further than criticism.
I watched the Vipers game online and it looked like a fairly evenly matched game at times but it was the Snakes who had the better scoring chances. You wouldn't guess the Eagles were 0-5. The Vipers couldn't capitalize on their opportunities, took way too many penalties and couldn't put the Eagles away. Give the Vipers penalty kill credit for killing off all eight penalties. Your not going to win many games when your on the penalty kill most of the night. The Vipers powerplay struggles again going 0-3 having a great opportunity to put the game away on the man advantage towards the end of the 3rd and into overtime. Surrey has a league high goals against and Vernon only scores once. Once again Vernon outshoots their opponents and give up fewer shots but lose the game. Looking at the Vipers Showcase schedule earlier in the week, it looked like the Snakes should come home with two wins on paper vs two teams last in their division and only one of the teams with just a single win. Instead the Clippers pick up just their second win of the season in a come from behind overtime win on Thursday and then the 0-5 Surrey Eagles get their first win of the season tonight. Two very disappointing losses for the Vipers. I know the season's young but the Snakes have now lost three straight and host the Wenatchee Wild Friday. I really liked the looks of this years Vipers heading into the season. We all know Mark Ferner's teams usually get better/stronger as the season continues. Do Viper fans have to be a little patient with this years Vipers? Vernon sits second last in the Interior Division but are lucky there only two points out of top spot.
Yes, I agree with Hockeyfan. This seems to be the way every Viper team of late starts the season. By Christmas they will have gelled & improved so they are a very good team. You don't win championships in September. Mark sees what is happening, will work on teaching good systems & habits and weed out the players who do not buy in or are not team players. He will tweak this team until it is solid & competitive every night. As the saying goes "it is not how you start but how you finish". Please be patient.
Now, saying all that I do think he will reel in his leaders very quickly. Suspensions & undisciplined penalties will not be tolerated from the veterans for long. The rookies must learn quickly but the vets know what is and isn't going to be called in this league. Missing good scoring opportunities can be about confidence & luck but taking bad penalties is about selfishness or laziness. Watch for a strong message & for penalty totals to drop significantly.
Well said!
I agree . Ferner and coaching staff have been to the championship rodeo before and know what it takes. So patience needs to be the rule of thumb. Be patient vipers fans
