The Prince George Spruce Kings filled out their roster at the BCHL Trade Deadline by swinging a pair of deals.
The Spruce Kings added forward Sam Anzai (98) from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for future considerations. Anzai is a former captain with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Anzai is a veteran of 90 junior hockey games between the AJHL and BCHL, picking up 3 goals and 2 assists in 14 games with the Vipers this season.
GM Mike Hawes “Adding a player of Sam’s calibre is very important for our stretch run. Sam is a veteran player with leadership abilities who is going to add depth to our already deep group of forwards.”

I'm a little shocked over this trade. After trading Anzai the Vipers are now left with a 22 man roster, one short of a 23 man roster. I don't understand, trading away a player, if you cant replace him with another player.
This is the second trade recently that back fired on Mark Ferner. Ferner acquired Brandon Whitsle and Sam Anzai from the Alberta Junior Hockey League, before trading both shortly after.
I thought both players didn't do much in their short time with the Vipers. Whistle had one good game just before Christmas and played ok in another game, other then that, he was basically invinsible. In Anzai he was another kid who didn't show much/do much in his first week or two in Vernon. I will admit I thought Anzai slowly started to get his game going the last few games and may have built some chemistry with his new line mates before being traded.
