I watched tonight's game online. A very emotional Graham Turnbull pre-game show. The Centennials open the scoring early, before jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead just five minutes in. The Vipers seemed to settle down but were down two goals early, on the road in a tough rink and with the passing of Duncan Wray, made a comeback very difficult. I thought maybe Mark Ferner should have called a timeout after Merritt's second goal, maybe even switch goaltenders, just to try and shake up the team. I thought Vernon re-grouped and played a much better second period, had several good opportunities, couldn't bury their chances, didn't get much puck luck. An early 3rd period goal just three minutes in, on a Viper turnover basically put the game away. A very emotional game for the Vipers, will have another emotional game tomorrow night, when hosting the Cowichan Capitals. The Snakes are set to pay a tribute/respect to owner Duncan Wray before tomorrow's game. It will be interesting to see if the boys are up for another emotional game on back to back nights.
It will be very interesting to see how this team responds to the passing of Duncan Wray. Will the pressure and emotions take over and they go into a funk, or will they rally around their owner and his family and make this a very special season.
I heard on tonight's broadcast, Mark Ferner will be meeting with Duncan's family next week, to discuss the future of the hockey team.
