Bulldogs Name Vipers Alumni Oliver New Captain:


The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have named former Vernon Vipers defenceman Mitchell Oliver new captain.

Oliver an alternate captain is in his first season with the Bulldogs after the Alberta Junior Hockey League Bonnyville Pontiacs traded Oliver to Alberni Valley September 1st 2017. Oliver split last season between the Vipers & Pontiacs. The Vipers traded Oliver to the Chilliwack Chiefs for forward Jesse Lansdell October 15th 2016. Oliver never played a game with Chilliwack was traded to Bonnyville the same day.

Oliver played parts of three season's in Vernon (2014-2016) played in 117 games with the Vipers collecting (7-goals-32-assists-39-points).

Today at practice Head Coach Matt Hughes announced a change in the leadership crew due to the trade of former Captain Ryan Steele to West Kelowna and former Assistant Captain Connor Welsh to the Trail Smoke Eaters.

The change will see veteran defensemen Mitch Oliver as the new Captain for the Bulldogs while Tyler Vanuden and James Orban will join Cole Poliziani as Assisant Captains.

“It’s a huge honour to be named Captain!” mentioned Mitch Oliver “I have big shoes to fill as our previous captain [Ryan Steele] was a tremendous leader on and off the ice.”

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night as they travel to Victoria to take on the Grizzlies.
