The American Hockey League Hershey Bears have signed former Vernon Vipers tryout forward Matt Moulson.
Moulson spent last season with the American Hockey League Ontario Reign.
Moulson played eleven seasons in the NHL with four different teams (Los Angeles, New York Islanders, Minnesota and Buffalo. Moulson was drafted 263rd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 9th round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Moulson last played in the NHL with Buffalo during the 2017-18 season before being assigned to the American Hockey League.
Moulson attended the Vernon Vipers training camp in 2001, was released during camp.

Bears Sign Forward Matt Moulson to AHL Deal

The Hershey Bears announced today that the club has signed forward Matt Moulson to a one-year American Hockey League contract for the 2019-20 season. The announcement was made by Hershey Vice President of Hockey Operations, Bryan Helmer.
Moulson, 35, brings nearly 1,000 professional games to the organization after appearing in 650 games in the NHL and 305 in the AHL. The North York, Ontario native was loaned from the Buffalo Sabres to the Ontario Reign for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. With the Reign, Moulson served as an alternate captain and potted 108 points (46 goals, 62 assists) in 117 games.
In the NHL, Moulson tallied three consecutive 30-goal seasons with the New York Islanders from 2009-2012 and later served as an alternate captain for the Buffalo Sabres in 2014-15. Moulson's first season in professional hockey saw him skate in 77 games with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs and lead the team in goals (25) and tied for the lead in points (57). Moulson appeared in 16 games in the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs before being eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Hershey Bears in a four game sweep.

Wow, check out this guys stats. Very impressive that he was able to score at every level he played. His brother Chris played a couple of years in the BCHL 2007 - 09, Penticton but mostly with Alberni Bulldogs. Vipers need scoring badly, maybe there is a much younger brother or someone else in the "Moulson gene pool" we could sign.
Moulson tried out for the Vipers in 2000-01. That was the first year that Mike Vandekamp coached in Vernon and he came to Vernon with the reputation he earned in Merritt for having very tough teams. Camp that year was held at Priest Valley arena.
Justin Bourne was also a rookie that year. Bourne, now a journalist with the Athletic, wrote an article about that camp. He described how Vandy came into the dressing room during the final Blue-White game at camp and was telling players who they had to fight in the third period. "I want you to fight number 8, and I want you to fight number 12 unless he's already fought and then you should fight number 15." Moulson refused to fight and was cut. He went back home to Ontario and put up huge scoring numbers in Junior and then played 4 years at Cornell, was captain, and then played many years in the NHL. Sure could have used him here in Vernon.
