I watched tonight's Vipers game online and thought the Vipers played fairly well even though they lost. This was a good game to watch. The Snakes penalty kill was good and held there own against a very good Chiefs team. Vernon hit a crossbar and post, had several quality opportunities, couldn't bury there chances. Coming into tonight's game this was going to be a tough test for the Vipers vs a strong Chilliwack team that was undefeated on home ice, scores a lot of goals and only one point back of 1st place Coquitlam. The Vipers couldn't catch a break or get a lucky bounce tonight, or this may have been a different game. Give the Snakes credit for holding the Chiefs to two goals and only seventeen shots. The Vipers have now been shutout in three straight games, have troubles scoring, are the lowest scoring team in the league with only fourteen goals. The new recruits/committed players that were brought in for scoring, aren't getting the job done. The returning veterans from last season, who were suppose to chip in with offence hasn't done much either. Connor Sleeth who was acquired over the summer in a trade with the Kanata Lasers, was the third leading scorer in Ontario last year and so far has struggled in BC. It's still early, the team has only played nine games but they are missing key pieces like Jagger Williamson, Josh Latta, Michael Young, Teddy Wooding, Jesse Lansdell and Lane Zablocki. The Snakes have now lost four straight and have just one win in there last six games. Max Palaga has now started all nine games this season. Vernon sits second from the bottom in the league only two points up on last place Merritt. The battle of the two bottom feeders will take place Friday in Vernon. Will the Vipers stay calm and stick with this team for a little longer, or will we see some major changes coming soon?
The last time the Vipers were shutout in three straight games was the 2014-16 season. The Vipers lost 3-0 to the visiting Salmon Arm Silverbacks January 30th 2015, 1-0 in Salmon Arm January 31st 2015 and 3-0 February 3rd 2015 in West Kelowna. The Vipers were shutout seven times that season, finished 2nd place with a 36-18-3-0 record were ten points ahead of 3rd place Merritt were seventeen points back of Division leading Penticton. That season the Vipers lost in five games to the Penticton Vees in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Liam Coughlin, Liam Finlay, Anthony Latina and Thomas Aldworth were the Snakes top four scoring leaders.

After the Buzzer – Vipers Remain Snake Bit, Fall in Chilliwack
October 10, 2019
Chilliwack, BC: The Vernon Vipers out shot and for the most part out chanced the Chilliwack Chiefs on Wednesday night at the Coliseum, but couldn’t find the back of the net as they dropped a 2-0 decision.
The Vipers penalty kill was a focal point in the first period stymieing a very good powerplay on 3 different occasions. One included a 5 on 3 for over 30 seconds. The short man had key blocks and some key saves. There weren’t many shots in the period, but lots of good free flowing action that ate up a good chunk of the period. Chilliwack had the only goal of the period as a pass from Joey Larson found Nikita Nesterenko in the left circle and he snapped it home. The late penalty kill efforts were successful as the opening period ended 1-0.
In the second, it was the Vipers turn on the powerplay and JoJo Tanaka-Campbell clanked a quick shot off the crossbar. The Vipers forecheck caused a lot of havoc, specifically the line of Fudger, Glen and Shostak. Brett Fudger came a millimetre away from getting his first BCHL goal, but Caron got a toe on it forcing it wide. Kyle Penney gave Chilliwack a 2-0 lead on a shot from the slot against the flow of momentum. The Vipers continued to put pucks at the net, but couldn’t find the second and third chances as the period ended in a 2-0 game.
The Vipers out shot the Chiefs in the third period 8-4, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Some more good chances and good shifts weren’t rewarded and the final buzzer sounded in a 2-0 game.
The Vipers return home for a date with the Merritt Centennials on Friday night at 7pm.
