I watched the Vipers game today on the computer. After having to play last night at 7:30pm the Vipers should have never had to play the following morning at 11am This is ridiculous!
The Vipers played very well in the 1st period. The Bulldogs were the better team in the 2nd period, outplayed Vernon but it was the Vipers who scored the only two goals of the period. The Bulldogs carried the better of the play but Ethan David making his first career regular season start was solid between the pipes in the middle frame. The Snakes catch a huge break towards the end of the 2nd period after Alberni Valley hits the post which would have cut the Viper lead to 2-1 instead it's 2-0 Vernon heading into the 3rd. The Vipers play well defensively and get some timely saves from Ethan David before Cameron MacDonald's insurance goal with eight minutes remaining. MacDonald goes head first or shoulder first into the side boards with a Bulldog player leaves the ice with what looks to be his shoulder or arm to be injured. MacDonald went straight to the Viper dressing room and didn't return. Let's hope Cameron is ok. Ethan David stops all 25 Bulldog shots for his first career win/shutout. Not only was David solid in goal, give some credit to Vernon's defence that also played very well this morning, especially after playing last night and then again early this morning.
The Vipers win both games this weekend at the BCHL Showcase and start the six game road trip off on a great note. This is a much different Viper team we saw play in the preseason and a Viper team that has improved from the opening night in Penticton. After starting the season 0-2 the Vipers have won three straight and look good. I know its early but I really like the looks of this Viper team so far.
I think starting the season playing eight of their first nine games on the road will make this Viper team a better team. These kinds of road trips or playing away from home this early in the season are great for team bonding, growing as a team and building chemistry and gelling as a team.
Go Vipers Go!
