Tuesday, November 10, 2015 - Submitted by BCIHL Media
The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of October.
Player of the Month - Beau Walker, Eastern Washington University
Walker picked up right where he left off following a league-leading 49 point campaign in 2014/15, picking up two goals and four points in a 5-3 opening night win over UVic. He continued on with points in EWU's five remaining October games, highlighted by a hat trick in a road win over SFU. The 23-year old totalled 9 goals and 14 points for the month, more than doubling the production of his next closest teammate.
Defenceman of the Month - Blair Murphy, Trinity Western University
TWU's captain and blueline force was also the league's most consistent offensive defenceman in October, picking up points in all of the Spartans' five games during the month. And he was in on big goals, including PJ Buys' third period winner at Selkirk College and home GWG by Jamie Russell and Jamey Kreller against EWU and UVic respectively. He finished the month with five assists in five games.
Goaltender of the Month - James Prigione, Selkirk College
Prigione picked up an opening night win over Trinity Western on the evening when the Saints' 2015 Championship Banner was lifted to the rafters. He then dropped two of three before picking up the first shutout of the young season with 23 saves in a 5-0 win over SFU. His three wins led all BCIHL goaltenders and his 2.42 GAA and .906 SV% were both tops amongst those who started multiple games.
Rookie of the Month - Dallas Calvin, Selkirk College
The highly-touted BCHL recruit made a statement in his first BCIHL regular season game with a hat trick in a 6-3 win over TWU. It was the beginning of a month-long tear that included points in all six of the Saints' contests, including a 4-goal, 5-point explosion in a 9-2 victory over Eastern Washington. The 21-year old was the only BCIHL skater to hit double-digits in goals with 10 and also picked up five assists.
