Kubantsev spent the 2025-26 season with the Vernon Vipers. The Vernon Vipers signed Kubantsev October 8th 2025. In 47 games, Kubantsev collected (15-goals-38-assists-53-points).

That name sounds like a Russian player? I think the world has to start letting more Russian Athletes compete in world sports as it wasn't their fault their Government invaded Ukraine
Wow, the Vipers have now lost or graduated 6 of their top 7 point getters from last year., all of them if Trockis chooses not to return. Dimitri had a couple more years of junior eligibility and probably was counted on to carry the offense. He was an exciting player but I have always been critical of his attitude. If things didn't go his way he would have very public shows of frustration, tossing sticks, grumbling, his body language told it all. It will be interesting to watch how he does in Major Junior.

Frick why is Kubantsev leaving? I liked him and was looking forward to him coming back this year. He was one of our more skilled players last year. Here we go again! Players that could return or the Vipers have signed/recruited are now leaving and signing with other teams. It makes it so difficult to follow the Vipers/players the past few seasons with all these players coming and going, especially when listening to the games on radio, you don't know who is who. With so much changes to the roster it is really making some fans lose interest as it's hard to follow the players. The league has to make some kind of rule that if you sign or commit to a team, you can't just up and leave right away. Since the BCHL left Hockey Canada it is all screwed up now.
The teams created this culture. They over commit and the Players are left scrambling with now where to play when they get cut end of sept or October. Has happened to a lot of viper commits. Maybe the teams should be more loyal to those they recruit. Vipers and Sherwood park seem to be the worst
He was a "ME" only player, selfish and a big baby ,wasn't a team player in my opinion. Glad he's not coming back
Hi Diehard. What the hell is going on with all these prospective Viper players leaving and signing onto other teams. The season hasn't even started and our players are bailing left and right.
The Bchl is no longer a viable path to Ncaa div 1...therefore if players have an opportunity to play elsewhere especially at what is considered " higher level" they are going to leave asap. As for Vernon in particular, there has been a LOT of reputational damage done over the past 3 seasons with poor management and coaching...that will take some time to repair, if it does get repaired
I liked Kubantsev. I agree with other comments about him being lazy, pouty and a poor attitude when things weren't going his way, but that's on the Vipers coaching staff. They needed to sit down with him and talk about it and put a stop to it. Kubantsev was the Vipers most skilled player last season and very exciting to watch other then his poor attitude now and again. I was expecting Kubantsev to return this season and lead the way offensively.
Ever since the NCAA changed the rules two seasons ago, players have been coming and going like crazy around the league, especially in Vernon. The Vipers had 50 something players play for them in the 2024-25 season and I think either close to 60 players or more play for them last season. That's just insane. The Vipers lost two recruits/committed players (Jonathan Bitonti & Eli Sciborski) who signed with them back in March and have now signed with other teams over the summer. Two players that were eligible to return (Jesse Sanche & Dimitrii Kubantsev) have decided to leave and sign with other teams. I sure hope we don't get a heavy player turn over this season. Time will tell.
Last season a couple of us met Kubantsev and he said that he was planning on moving to the OHL for this coming season. Instead, he was drafted by the St John's Newfoundland team of the QMJHL. He was the second highest scoring 17 year old in the BCHL last season but let his frustration boil over a few times and will need to grow up playing Major junior.
