I don't think it is just the Vipers they don’t want play for but, the BCHL is also factor!

I’m sure other teams in the BCHL will be experiencing, or will, the same sort of thing! The good news is teams can get players from Europe who would love the opportunity to play in North America, sanctioned or not, will make no difference to them.

I believe it's Mass Exodus not Max Exodus

The Vipers are losing a great young defenceman in Dylan Compton. I thought he really improved as the season went along. Two players leave the Vipers this week to sign and play in the AJHL. Is it due to the BCHL leaving Hockey Canada or something going on with the Vipers? I talked to a long time season ticket holder towards the end of the season that told me he talked to one of the Vipers parents who said if Jason McKee is back this season, most of the players returning won't be back.

player quotes...

“I’m very excited to be joining a team with such an outstanding reputation for developing players and moving them on to the next level,” said Compton.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play for a very good organization in Sherwood Park in the AJHL,” stated Merner, “where I will have the ability to continue to develop my game and prepare me for my transition to play at Merrimack College in the NCAA,”

...the connection between the two, development as a player. So, obviously they felt they were not getting development with the Vipers.

Interesting, that the Vipers publish players coming to the team but, not those leaving, interesting, verrrrrry interesting!

Now we see one of the detrimental effects of the BCHL leaving the nation wide Junior A umbrella. Defections of this type could not have happened when the BCHL was part of the CJHL group of leagues.

Will BCHL teams now raid other Jr. A leagues? Should they do so? Do you say, "Let's not engage in this kind of unethical behaviour?" Or do you say, "Fair is fair - if a CJHL league can raid BCHL clubs, why can't the BCHL raid teams in other leagues?" (Actually, by signing 16-year-old and 17-year-old players from other provinces, BCHL teams are "stealing" players from teams in their home provinces.)

The BCHL has two prime advantages over other Canadian Jr A leagues: 1,) a high calibre of play and 2.) a well deserved reputation for helping players get NCAA scholarships. In the case of Ethan Merner and Dylan Compton, the players already have their NCAA commitments. Apparently, they have no loyalty to the Viper team that helped them get those commitments and now they can go anywhere they want, including the USHL.

How many players have arrived with scholarships in the past 3/5/10 years vs earned scholarships as a Viper?

Not sure about previous years, however last year I believe the following players received scholarships....
CIS
1) Third
2)McMaster

NCAA
1) Parks
2) Pakulak
3) Tremblay
4) Barr
5) Merner

Not sure about Roan Clark,if he committed last year ? or previous year.

Compton, Cleaves, Welsh already were committed when joining the Vipers !
