WHY, WHY WHY, make so many transactions when they only had to make one.

Dane Weston requested a trade. He's not the first player to want out and apparently 3 more are waiting.
Bob, you seem to have inside knowledge on these trade requests, I dont know whether Westen requested a trade, or hes good at math. With Barr and Compton coming back from the injury list, and Cliche already having played a year, that's 3 right shot D that would be playing every night. Would be tough for Westen to earn ice and a scholarship under those circumstances. Just a Thought !
I liked Dane Weston and think he's a much better d-man over Luke Ashton. The Vipers have traded two solid defencemen in Weston and Matthew Sutter but decided to keep Luke Ashton, a kid who's in his second season and hasn't improved. Constantly making mistakes, turning over pucks and a liability every time he's on the ice.
Weston is another recruit/committed player now gone. How many committed players have the Vipers either released or traded the past few seasons? It's unbelievable! This season alone, Connor Chalmers, Justin Chaput, Max Seguin, Liam Cavan, Ludobik Tardif, Dane Weston & Revy Mack. This is going to kill your recruiting in the future.
The Vipers are the lowest scoring team in the league. Horn had 45 points last season, maybe a change will bring some scoring to the Vipers lineup?
This is the seventeenth trade/signing the Vipers have made this season. I don't recall ever seeing this many moves in one season. Whos' next?
What a mess! This year has been very disappointing and looks like another losing season.
When comparing players, remember that Weston is a 19 year old so he's probably is a better defender than Ashton who's only a 17 year old. And Westen is a right handed defender but Ashton plays on the left side. Sure, players can play on the off-handed side but it's kind of comparing apples to oranges.
And I think that Ashton has really been playing a lot better lately. Trading him as a 17 year old might just set him up to come back and bite Vernon next year, and the year after.

Don't forget that Compton and Barr were out long term, now that they are back it doesn't make sense to keep 9 defensemen. As to B McInnes point, your comparing a 19 yr old import to a 17yr old Canadian. Right vs. left...you would probably know for sure, but isn't there a rule that each team is required to have a minimum of 2-17 year old's on the roster ? Perhaps this was a factor in the decision on D !
Agree with Bob, Personally thought Ashtons best game of the year was on this past Sat.night.
Choices?? Players do have a choice to either accept Jason Mckee coaching style or not. A coach must have everyone on the same page to have a team first system and if a player has attitude much like alot of the youth today then it is best the player move on for the sake of the team .Some players will buy into Jasons style and some will not. Thats life.
Don’t forget about Brandes…he’s probably the best skater and most skilled d on the team and McKee has him either scratched or playing forward. Wouldn’t be surprised if he follows western out the door
Horn turns 21 on February 16 2023. That's well before the end of the season. He has a scholarship from U Mass-Lowell for next season. He must be enrolled in at least 3 classes for this season, likely via distance ed. to keep that scholarship in place if he plays past his 21st birthday. Or have the NCAA rules changed?
I remember Curtis Fraser who joined the Vipers in 2002-03 and turned 21 near the beginning of the playoffs that season and declined to play any games after his 21st birthday because it would have killed his scholarship.
