I watched the Vipers game on the computer tonight. I thought the Vipers played well at times and were in tonight's game. Vernon looked like the better team in the 1st period and were evenly matched in the 2nd and 3rd periods. I didn't think either team dominated or controlled the hockey game. The Express had an edge in play at times and so did the Snakes. Both goaltenders played well. The Vipers had some good chances in the 1st period but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities. Vernon didn't get as many opportunities in the 2nd and 3rd and once again struggle to score goals. The Vipers are the lowest scoring team in the BCHL with 43 goals.

The Vipers need some scoring and better start looking. Your not going to win many games or go far in the playoffs if you can't score goals. I blame this on the Vipers scouting/recruiting. The Vipers better take a look at who's doing their scouting/recruiting and make some changes as their scouting/recruiting has been average at best the past four seasons. Several recruits/committed players have been released or traded and the Vipers haven't had a goal scorer or any elite players in years.

The Vipers are struggling. The Vipers have lost six straight road games and only won two of their ten games away from home. Vernon has two wins in their last eight games and five wins in their last fourteen games. It's time for changes!

Since Jason McKee has taken over the Vipers have been an average team at best and been inconsistent all four years. McKee says the team is playing hard, competing and was in tonight's game but at the end of the day, they still lost. You can play hard, compete and be in games but at the end of the day wins is what counts. It's time for a coaching change. Jason McKee is not a good coach and his four seasons in Vernon have proved that. This season is looking like the past three seasons and it's time for a coaching change! McKee and the Vipers aren't getting the job done. Let Colton Sparrow and Lukas Lomicky take over and see what they can do the rest of the season.

We want a new coach!

A new coach isn't going to fix the current problem of having no goal scorers this season.

I have to disagree. Former Vipers Head Coach/GM Mike Vandekamp was a perfect example. Vandekamps Merritt Centennials didn't have a very skilled or talented team but upset the first place Penticton Panthers in the playoffs two years in a row. Vandekamps Vipers didn't always have the most skilled teams, but he got the best out of his teams. Mark Ferner was another coach that could bring the best out of his team/players and get an average player to perform at a high level. Here is another good example. When Jason Williamson was coach, he traded Jedd Soleway to the Penticton Vees during the 2012-13 season. Soleway had 17 points in 26 games with the Vipers, ended up with 29 points in 22 games with the Vees. It's also not all about the Vipers not being able to score, but more of a complete two way game. If you have a coach like Mark Ferner who is a defensive minded coach, you already have two good goaltenders in Roan Clarke and Ethan David. You bring out the better in players like Reagan Milburn and Lee Parks who I think should be producing more goals under a better coach and now you start winning more low scoring games and not having to rely on scoring a ton of goals in order to win. You look back at some of the Vipers low scoring one goal games when Mark Ferner was coach. Scoring is a problem but coaching is the Vipers biggest problem right now. I don't think McKee is getting the best out of his players/team and isn't a good coach. I think a new coach and a new voice will get more out of the Vipers, will get more production and scoring. I think the Vipers have some skilled players that could produce more with a better coach. I look at players like Reagan Milburn, Lee Parks, Julian Facchinelli, Bowden Singleton, Hank Cleaves & Seiya Tanaka-Campbell. Maybe I'm wrong but a coaching change is needed!

I agree with VDHF.
If Mckee is mostly responsible for recruiting these players who on paper look like they should perform, and then don't.....that's a coaching issue.
We haven't really had a top quality goal scorer since Mckee has been here, even though we probably should have with the number of players who have gone through this organization since then.

Bobby C said...

VDHF your comments are 100% correct. Listening to the post game show after the game it was the same repetitive interview that we hear game after game. Imagine what it is like for the players, a new voice is needed!

Players can’t stand the coach. Environment is awful. Keeps playing same unproductive players all the time. Wake up Glen !

This team is destined to be no more than a 6th 7th or 8th place team ,year after year watching penticton run away with the title .I see this past summer they bring ill these commits then ship them all out not giving them a chance to prove them selves, then behold here come the whl cast offs and were still no better ,this all boils down to coaching or lack of a coach, the sad part is when the team was purchased they had the best jr a coach already in place

Crazytrain said...

Get a new coach and I might consider going to the games again!!!

Coach doesn't play his proven goal scorers and doesn't play players in their natural positions! He likes the hassle of players built fails to put the skilled players together. Look at plus minus who he deems is his top players as does the host of this blog has blinders on as yes they may score but they also are provided top minutes on PP/PK and their +/- is terrible the so called coaches favorites!

vipersdiehardfan said...

The Vipers had 6 wins last year in their first 20 games. This season the Vipers have 8 wins in their first 20 games. At the end of the day, Jason McKee is a terrible coach!

Anonymous said...

There have been hundreds and hundreds of posts saying get rid of McKee but he is the Glens buddy they could care less about the fans or the city. It is all a write-off for them. When have you ever met an honest used car salesman? Anybody that goes to the games is a fool laughed at by the owners behind their back!

Is it worth the loyal fans time to chant WE WANT A COACH,WE WANT A COACH. or are we wasting our breath. I feel at times will watch the games as a social get together and that will be the only good part of vipers hockey, talking to my buds as it looks like just another losing season and having the hope of something exciting next year because at best I find it hard to keep awake and be hopeful with what I see on the ice. Progress in some areas is happening but we also see the need for change which is slow to happen. YAWN. Go,Vipers,GO.

So we have family who live in Port Alberni. And when my wife suggests that we go for a visit, I immediately consult the BCHL schedule to see if the Bulldogs are at home. We were in luck and got to see the second game of an Alberni-Nanaimo home and home. I did a little research on Eliteprospects.com of the two teams and discovered that there are several BCHL players who played a year ago for Kimball Union pre-school.

A disturbing pattern of these Kimball Union players emerged. Last year's top KU scorer, Ty Wishart, plays for Nanaimo and has secured a scholarship. Matthew Maltais, one of Alberni's leaders, also from Kimball has a scholarship. And Jaiden Moriello, last season at Kimball, is West Kelowna's leading scorer this year and guess what? He has a scholarship.

Vernon recruited some Kimball Union players, too. Revelin Mack, shipped out of here before the season began. Doesn't have a scholarship. Conner Chalmers, again KU recruit, shipped to the AJHL early this season and he has a scholarship for next season. And Will Blackburn, still with the Vipers doesn't have a scholarship yet.

The pattern is that the better players on Kimball, and likely other schools, wound up on other teams. Not here. And the thought occurs: recruiting is already going on. Hockey tournaments are going on and parents talk in the stands. I wonder if any of the top players are considering coming to Vernon. Reputation helps, or hurts, recruiting.

Sorry to make this so long, but at the Alberni rink there was also a U18 tournament and I ran into another Viper season ticket holder who was down there with his son who plays minor hockey in Victoria. Small world.

Parents Weekend is coming up on the next 2 Home Games, a perfect opportunity to start the "CHANT"

And post all these comments around Kal Tire Place. That could be interesting!

Put up sticky posters around the arena, we need a vipers coach, replace mckee. They probably throw you out of the building for being honest. But at least you would go down kicking. ha ha

I talked to a friend of mine today whos a long time season ticket holder. He asked if I have seen the COVID protestors every Saturday by Polson Park? He said lets get a bunch of signs made up and start a protest outside Kal Tire Place before every Vipers game

Vipers fans a message must be sent with drama behind it or things will stay the same. A message must be send

Anonymous said...

For the fans that were part of the many winning years, certainly we feel a message must be sent about a coaching change. For the fans that have been supporting the Vipers less than 4 or 5 years, will not see why or understand why a coaching change is needed as they see an average team and that is what they’re used to. Us fans who have supported the Vipers for 10+ years, we want the much needed coaching change!!

Does McKee Really Have To Go, Let’s talk some numbers.

He sits at, this season, with 8W 12L for a W% of 40
He sits at 7th in Interior and 11th for the League
He has a P% of 45, 18pts of a possible 40
He has an overall coaching record so far for W% is 50
He has an average fan attendance, after 9 home games, of 1701
He has made 14 player transactions in 20 game so, far this season

Does McKee have to go?, you make the call!

Crazytrain said...

You should be chanting "go home Glenn and take McKee with you!!!" Pretty obvious that nothing will change as long as we have the LEMON seller owning the team. Vipers are known as a complete joke in the hockey world. ZERO chance of recruiting any top end talent.

@ Bingo

You keep asking people to start a chant or a message must be sent.......why don't you start it?

A gathering of ex-Vipers is taking place in Bonnyville of the Alberta Junior League. The Alberni Bulldogs have traded former Viper Ludovik Tardif to Bonnyville for future considerations. He joins former Vipers Max Seguin, who has 19 points in 24 games, and Liam Cavan on the Pontiacs.

BINGO said...

It is pretty obvious to have signs made and displayed inside the arena JASON MUST GO , chanting in the third period when we have a lope sided score for a consistent period, WE WANT A COACH. Who knows when this will happen but if you want change and if your not happy then action speaks louder than words. YOUR CALL,MY CALL,EVERYBODYS CALL. We need a coaching change. GO,VIPER,GO

Why wait until the 3rd period, just start when the game starts!

M.F. said...

BINGO-BOBBY C-VDHF,
If McKee bothers you guys so much, why don't you just NOT GO to the VIPER games ? I saw in a earlier post the Vipers are averaging over 1700 fans per game, If this is accurate, sure seems like a lot of Vernonites are enjoying themselves.
Remember what your Mommy told you...
If you live in a glass house, dont throw stones !!

Bobby C said...

Obviously MF you choose to accept mediocrity or even a sub par performance but we don't.

M.F. said...

Bobby C,
I searched a long ways back on this Blog, have yet to find ONE POSITIVE comment from you..
If the performance of the team is not up to your standards, either apply to coach (as we all know how easy it is from the stands) OR....DONT GO !!!!
Im sure the kids are trying their best, probably could use more support, than more NEGATIVITY.

Anonymous said...

M. F. You obviously know absolutely nothing about hockey. The best way to support the kids is get somebody that can teach them the skills they need to win not a absolute joke like McKee. The Glens have killed Junior hockey in Vernon. By the way I don't go to the games anymore and I was a season ticket holder for 10 years before the Glens.

M.F. said...

Well Mr Anonymous.....Dont GO.....Kids will be better off without your Negative Vipes in the rink !!

Anonymous said...

M.F. You obviously can't read I already said I don't go! You can't spell either its Negative Vibes not Negative Vipes! Ha Ha no wonder you go....lol What does M.F. mean Mislead Fan.

Wow lots of action on the blog! I like it. I'm sure the powers to be read it, so hopefully they get it. Keep up the good work!
