I watched the Wild-Vipers game on my computer.
After both teams were fairly evenly matched in the 1st period, the hometown Wild got the majority of the calls go their way and outplayed the Vipers for lengthy periods of time during the 2nd and 3rd periods. The Wild played lengthy periods of time on the power play in the 2nd and 3rd periods. The Vipers seemed to be fighting the refs. The turning point was with the game tied late in the 2nd period, the Vipers turned over the puck twice in their own end, and both turnovers lead to goals. Instead of going into the 3rd tied, the Vipers were down 3-1 The Snakes didn't look or play very well after the opening frame, took way too many penalties and made way too many mistakes/errors that cost them.
Since the Wild joined the league, it seems like everytime the Vipers play in Wenatchee they are fighting the refs and the Wild get the majority of the calls or calls go their way.
A dissapointing loss to a team that's near the bottom of the standings and had been struggling before tonight's game. The Vipers were playing their sixth game in ten days, short staffed, I'm sure they were fatigue and running out of gas.
After the streak the Vipers have been on lately, a game/loss like tonight may be good.
Vernon with a quick turn around, host Prince George Monday afternoon.
Go Vipers Go!
Can only say what all the others who play on Wenatchee say..... why are such incompetent buffoons allowed to ref these games. I have read the same complaint about their refs many times since they joined the league on various boards, blogs, etc by all teams in the league.
When you watch them you wonder if they have ever actually see. A real hockey game and if they have a clue about how to call a game. A few years ago the refs they had did not seem to know the terms off side or Icing.
Tonight, there was a blow to the head delivered to Vernon by Wenatchee. A mini brawl ensued. Both teams go two roughing penalties. Mcnelly got a five for fighting. Who the heck was he fighting? I didn't see any player letting themselves be a punching bag. In fact wenatchee players were fully involved. His opponent should also have gotten a major. Stupid thing was, the totally incompetent refs ""forgot"" to call the blow to the head penalty. No wonder the game toon the turn it did the refs seemed totally blind to the hone team infractions.
Don't get me wrong, I believe penalties should be called where warranted. However I believe that penalties should be called fairly. So many calls against Wenatchee were not called. Hard to play fron the box.
Makes me wonder if Wenatchee in the league is a good thing g since over the years they have been unable to provide adequate, unbiased reffing no matter who comes to town.
The outcome was no surprise as the referee drama has always been since wenatchee wild came into the leaque. It has always been one sided even during the ferner years. The refs will make a call on the least little thing. It makes for an non hockey game more like a referee hockey game. If you think our refs are bad you would think you where in heaven compared to the refs in wenatchee. I will be so glad when the vipers are back in canada where at least there is some sort of fairness. I agree with diehard in that the bad refereeing will never change. Thank goodness we do not have to play down in the U.S. of A. to often. GO,VIPERS.GO.
When Wenatchee first applied to come into the league, the BCHL tried to convince BC fans that it would be a good thing and that they would use a mix of American and Canadian referees with sometimes a Canadian ref down in Wenatchee and sometimes an American ref joining a Canadian one in Canada.
But USA foreign worker rules got in the way. Canadian refs can't be paid to work in the US if there is an American ref who can be hired for the game. So we don't see referees crossing the border to work in each others countries. And the terrible reffing in Wenatchee continues. Does the WHL have this same issue?
I think the BCJHL has to strongly review wenatchee being in our league or any other U.S.teams for that matter. If canadian refs cannot become envolved and as other canadian teams have experienced that the refs are one side in the states then we need teams in our league to be outspoken and let the president and directors of our league know about the frustation they feel as nothing will be done and change will not happen until the owners of teams express themselves. I say owners stand together and let yourself's known.
Sour grapes, they lost end of story, blaming the refs is cheap quit whining!!
