Strachan retired from professional hockey in 2018. Strachan played four years at the University of Ohio signed his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Albany River Rats in 2007. Strachan played eleven seasons in four different leagues with thirteen different teams (Albany River Rats, Peoria Rivermen, St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers, San Antonio Rampage, Washington Capitals, Hershey Bears, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, Iowa Wild, Rochester Americans & Cardiff Devils).
Strachan was drafted by Carolina in the 5th round, 137th overall at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Strachan played one season in Vernon with the 2002-2003 Vernon Vipers. In 56 games with the Vipers, Strachan collected (6-goals-22-assists-28-points).
