I had to work today so I wasn't able to watch or listen to the game this afternoon. I watched the game on my computer on BCHL TV after work this evening.
The 0-2 Silverbacks were by far the better team and outplayed the Vipers most of the afternoon. Salmon Arm held a 1-0 lead for half of the hockey game until the Snakes were finally able to tie the game. This goal seemed to wake Vernon up as the Vipers scored four unanswered 2nd period goals and dominated the second half of the middle frame. The Vipers held a early 5-1 3rd period lead and looked to be in full control before getting into penalty trouble. Vernon allows the Apes back in the contest and blows a 5-1 3rd period lead as SA ties the game with a minute remaining to force overtime. The S'Backs with several quality chances to end it in overtime couldn't capitalize on some glorious chances before Griffen Barr plays the overtime hero at 3:40 giving the Vipers a 6-5 overtime victory.
The Silverbacks carried most of the play, were quick with the puck and had lots of quality chances through out the game. James Porter Jr was solid between the pipes in the first half of the game. If it wasn't for the Vernon goaltender, Salmon Arm could have easily been up 5-0 or more. Salmon Arm showed no quit even down 5-1 forcing overtime. Other then the second half of the middle frame, I really liked the Apes game.
The Vipers looked sloppy, disorganized and struggled through out most of this afternoon's hockey game. In all three games this Pod season, Vernon has given up the games first goal. The Vipers were very lucky only to be down one goal midway through the 2nd period. I thought the game was over after a 5-1 3rd period lead. Boy was I wrong. The Snakes fell apart in the 3rd and were lucky to pull out the win in overtime.
This was a very exciting game for the fans but both coaches won't be too happy! Both goaltenders may have given up a fair amount of goals but also played very well at times keeping their teams in the hockey game.
I thought Reagan Milburn, Seth Bafaro, Cameron MacDonald, Ryan Shostak, Nicholas Kent & James Porter Jr all played well and looked good for the Vernon Vipers.
I thought Joaquim Lemay, Tucker Hartmann, Hunter Sansbury, Noah Serdachny, Simon Tassy, Daniel Panetta, Julian Recine & Liam Vanderkooi played well and looked good for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
These two teams will play again Saturday in Vernon.
