I watched tonight's Vipers/Warriors game online.
I thought the Warriors were the better team in the opening frame. West Kelowna opened the scoring early and had a slight edge in play. It looked like the Vipers had trouble gaining the puck and getting into the offensive zone. Both teams didn't generate much offence or had many shots on goal. I thought WK had more puck possession and zone time.
The Snakes with a big turn around, looked and played much better in a second period they carried most of the play and outplayed the Tribe. Vernon gave up an early goal to fall behind 2-0 but rallied with two quick back to back goals fifteen seconds apart to tie the game. Vernon controlled the better of the play, had lots of zone time and were creating/generating opportunities. West Kelowna saw a lot of time in their own end, didn't see much time with the puck or much time in the offensive zone.
Cameron MacDonald scores the game winner in another very good period by the Snakes. Neither team didn't get many shots on goal but the Vipers were the better team until West Kelowna come on strong in the final minutes. The Tribe pressed hard to force overtime but Vernon played very well defensively. Roan Clarke wasn't tested much during tonight's game, was forced to make a large save with about a minute or so remaining to keep it a one goal game. I thought the Vipers were the better of the two teams.
It seems like the Snakes give up the games first goal in almost every game. It didn't look good going down 2-0 but you have to give this team credit for not packing it in. The Vipers were a different team in the 2nd and 3rd periods and the better team in the final two periods. Vernon's defence was joining the rush and physical. This was a character win over a team that has played them hard and had their number this Pod season. I really liked Vernon's game in the final two periods.
Trey Taylor, Ayden Third, Tyler Carpendale & Nicholas Remissong looked good and played well for the Vernon Vipers.
The Warriors coming off three days off, played a very well 1st period. West Kelowna wasn't the same team in the 2nd and 3rd periods had troubles gaining puck possession and getting into the attacking zone. Both teams didn't give up many shots and both teams didn't give up a whole lot of chances. Simon Ferguson won't be happy blowing a 2-0 lead. The Vipers have now won three straight vs West Kelowna.
Tyler Cristall, Damon Jugnauth & Zachary Bennett looked good and played well for the West Kelowna Warriors.
I have said this many times before. It is difficult at times to get a good read on players or the actual game as it's not the same being in the stands and watching these games live.
Hope for vipers hockey in the fall. Go vipers Go
