I watched the Vipers/Silverbacks game on BCHL TV tonight.
The Silverbacks opened the scoring which is nothing new in this Pod season. The Vipers have given up the games first goal in six out of their eight games. The opening frame was even at times but I thought the Silverbacks had the better of the chances, a slight edge in play and in puck possession.
Salmon Arm really turned up the heat in the 2nd period and I thought was the better of the two teams. The Apes carried a lot of the play during periods of play and had a lot more looks & opportunities. Vernon who played last night looked tired during the middle frame. The S'Backs looked good and if they could have popped in a goal or two this period, this may have been a different game/outcome. Instead the Snakes hang on, don't surrender a goal and it's still tied heading into the 3rd.
Another period where both teams went back and fourth and fairly even at times. Both teams had some good looks/opportunities but again I thought SA had a slight edge in play. Both goaltenders played well.
Both teams went back and fourth in the extra frame but I thought the Silverbacks had the better of the chances in overtime. Both goaltenders were good in OT.
The Vipers playing back to back games looked tired and not as quick tonight. I thought Vernon was outworked at times and couldn't defend against a much quicker and more rested Salmon Arm team. The Snakes did manage to hold their own at times, got some timely saves from rookie Roan Clarke and a few big blocks from the defence. The Vipers & Silverbacks have gone to overtime the past four straight games with Vernon winning three in overtime and one in a shootout.
Tyler Carpendale, Roan Clarke, Nicholas Remissong and Cameron MacDonald looked good and played well for the Vernon Vipers.
The Silverbacks had a slight edge in play and I thought the better team fell short in the shootout. The Gorillas looked sharp, were quick on their feet, had the better of the opportunities and more zone time and puck possession. The Backs had last night off and it showed. This was an entertaining hockey game. The Vipers have Salmon Arm's number this Pod season.
Joaquim Lemay, Cameron Recchi, Danny Ciccarello, Simon Tassy, Owen Say & Daniel Panetta looked good and played well for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
I know some fans aren't interested in watching the Vernon Pod season as the games mean nothing for the fans. My take on it is with not being able to watch or attend the Vipers training camp this past August I'm watching these games/players as are the coaches and taking this as an early training camp for next season and good way to get a good look at the players returning for next season.
