I watched the Warriors/Vipers game online tonight.
The Vipers were the better team in the 1st period, carried the better of the play and had some looks but struggled with the man advantage. The Warriors were lucky Vernon didn't strike on the PP a couple of times and this game may have not gone down to the wire. Former Viper goaltender Johnny Derrick with some big stops keeps this a scoreless opening frame.
West Kelowna turned things around in the middle frame and looked to be the better of the two teams early. The Tribe had some quality chances but couldn't solve James Porter Jr. Both teams went back and fourth as I thought the Warriors had an edge in play and were the better team at times in the first half but the Snakes flipped a switch and come on strong in the second half, getting some good looks and chances and carried the play at times. Vernon was the better team in the last half of this period. Neither team could find the back of the net as both goaltenders played well.
Tyler Carpendale capitalizes on a 3rd period PP opens the scoring which held up as the game winner. I thought as the period went on the Snakes had more jump and a little more energy as the Warriors were down to three lines and had some players out due to injury. WK didn't generate many shots on goal but did force James Porter Jr into making some big stops in a one goal game. JoJo Tanaka-Campbell sealed the win with an empty netter. I thought the Vipers had an edge in play and were the better team in the 3rd.
After two days off the Vipers played one of their best 1st periods of the Pod season. Overall I thought Vernon played well vs a Warriors team who has had their number this Pod season. The Vipers could have gone up by a goal or two if the PP was clicking in the opening frame. Instead the Vipers needed to grind one out and hold on for the win. One thing I have noticed during this Pod season is the Snakes are very inconsistent. The Vipers have won back to back games since starting the Pod season 2-0.
JoJo Tanaka-Campbell, Ryan Shostak, James Porter Jr, Tyler Carpendale & Hunter Donohoe looked good and played good for the Vernon Vipers.
The Warriors headed into this evenings game with some injuries/suspensions and a shortened roster. West Kelowna took some undisciplined penalties and were lucky Vernon didn't capitalize with the man advantage. Give the Tribe a little credit as Johnny Derrick and the PK was very good tonight. I thought the Warriors hung in at times and also looked very good at times but were no where near playing sixty minutes. At times West Kelowna looked tired and sluggish and that will happen playing shorthanded and with a shortened bench. A bounce or some puck luck at any point in the game and this could have easily been a different outcome. The Warriors have some very deadly forwards who can put the puck in the net. The Warriors are 4-2 vs Vernon this Pod season.
Johnny Derrick & Riley Sharun I thought played well and looked good for the West Kelowna Warriors.
It was a good game. Was glad to see all their hard work pay off. It was one of their best efforts this pod season ... in my opinion. Funny though how Uncle Ben has lost his voice (or his keyboard). Lol. Why not ruffle some feathers.
Meh....Vipers got lucky. Half our team was out of the lineup and we took stupid penalties trying to keep up.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while! :D|
Go Warriors Go!
Cheers,
Uncle Ben
