Vipers Trey Taylor Invited to Team Canada West Try Out in Calgary

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce that 17 year old defenceman Trey Taylor has been invited to Team Canada West tryouts in Calgary.

“It’s a huge honour to be invited to try out for a such a great event,” says Taylor.  “But being invited is just the first step, with the ultimate goal of course to make to the team and represent my country.”

23 BCHLers to participate in WJAC tryout

Hockey Canada announced its list of players invited to camp for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge (WJAC) today and, as usual, there is a heavy amount of BCHL talent involved.

23 players from the league were invited to tryout for the team from Dec. 1 to 3 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alta.

“After months of work put in to identifying players, our team is excited to bring a talented group together for selection camp, and we look forward to assembling Team Canada West for what should be a highly-competitive tournament in Dawson Creek,” said Canada West director of operations Jamie McCaig. “We know these 44 players will bring work ethic and a hard-working attitude to camp as we begin our quest for a gold medal at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge.”

Last year’s roster featured 14 BCHL players and won a bronze medal. The only player at this year’s camp that played in the 2018 tournament is Coquitlam’s Massimo Rizzo who had two assists in six games.

The BCHL will also be well-represented behind the bench for Team Canada West as the team’s head coach is Joe Martin (Alberni Valley) and Brian Maloney (Chilliwack) will act as an assistant.

Other teams in the tournament include Canada East, Czech Republic, Russia and the United States.

This year’s tournament will be held in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Team Canada West kicks off its schedule Dec. 7 against the United States.
