Deelstra’s high-scoring week earns him POW

Alberni Valley Bulldogs forward Mitch Deelstra has been named the Subway BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 17.
In two games last week, the Bulldogs’ captain tallied three goals and added another four assists for seven points.
On Wednesday, Deelstra had a goal and three assists as Alberni Valley scored three times in the third period to force overtime, but eventually lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Nanaimo Clippers. He was named the game’s second star. On Sunday, in front of a packed house at Rod Brind’Amour Arena in Campbell River, the 20-year-old scored twice, including the game winning goal, and was named first star in his team’s 5-2 triumph over the Trail Smoke Eaters.
Deelstra, who recently committed to Ferris State University, leads Alberni Valley with 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists) which also puts him 15th in BCHL scoring.
