River Dragons Sign Vernon Vipers Alumni Williamson:

The Federal Prospects Hockey League Columbus River Dragons have signed former Vernon Vipers captain/forward Jagger Williamson.

No official press release from the River Dragons, but Williamson is listed on there roster.

The River Dragons are a professional ice hockey team based in Columbus, Georgia. In 2017, the Columbus Cottonmouths, a longtime Civic Center tenant, folded after 21 years. This left the Civic Center without a hockey tenant for the first time in its existence. Almost two years later in April 2019, the Columbus city council voted to award a five-year lease to Ignite Pro Hockey, LLC at the Civic Center. On May 21, 2019, it was announced that the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) had awarded an expansion team to Columbus, Georgia, and would be called the Columbus River Dragons.

Williamson had committed to the Michigan Tech Huskies for the 2019-20 season prior to joining the River Dragons.

Williamson played five seasons with the Vernon Vipers (2014-2019). In 233 career games with the Vipers, Williamson collected (54-goals-119-assists-173-points)

Jagger is a clever young man who would undoubtedly have found success both on and off the ice . What happened at Michigan Tech ?

If you Google the Federal Prospects Hockey League it appears to be a level slightly above beer league hockey. Players make very little money, a few hundred dollars a week, so I would imagine that they have other jobs just to survive. Not everyone has the ability or interest to "go the academic route" but I wonder why Jagger would choose the FPHL. Surely he could have gone to Europe, got paid much better, seen the country and play in a league with a bit more credibility.

A friend of mine was playing beer league hockey in Vernon about a month ago and played against Jagger Williamson. I was surprised Jagger was still in town and was wondering why he wasn't at Michigan Tech. My friend told me after the game, he over heard Jagger telling some other guys, he was thinking of playing hockey in Europe this year.

According to jaggers Facebook, it looks like he got a serious leg injury playing for the river dragons and had to get surgery.

A Will LaPorte posted this along with a picture of jagger in a hospital bed:
Spending the night with my boy tonight, suffered a terrible leg injury in his professional hockey debut. Surgery was a success, now it’s recovery time.
Here we go boys. Jagger Williamson
