Västerviks IK Re-Signs Vernon Vipers Alumni Nowick:

Västerviks IK has re-signed former Vernon Vipers forward Darren Nowick.

Västerviks IK is a Swedish ice hockey club, based in Västervik. The club, founded in 1971, had spent decades yo-yoing between the third and fourth tiers of Swedish ice hockey, Division 1 and Division 2, before securing promotion on March 31, 2016, to HockeyAllsvenskan (second tier) for the 2016–17 season. 

Nowick collected (12-goals-18-assists-30-points) last year in his first season with Västerviks IK.

After playing four years at Northern Michigan University Nowick signed his first professional contract with the ECHL Missouri Mavericks March 16 2016. From 2016-2018 Nowick spent three seasons playing in the American Hockey League & ECHL with three different teams ( Missouri-Kansas City Mavericks, Stockton Heat and Bridgeport Sound Tigers).

Nowick played two years in Vernon (2010-2012) played in 109 games with the Vipers collected (36-goals-50-assists-86-points).

 27-year-old American forward Darren Nowick has signed a contract extension with Västerviks IK for the coming season in HockeyAllsvenskan. Nowick accounted for 12 goals and 18 assists in 52 regular season games last season and became a huge fan favourite after an impressive technical and energetic, smart games all over the ice.

In addition to the fine score harvest with 30 points, he stood last season for the mighty 7 clinching goals, second in the whole of the HockeyAllsvenskan for Södertälje Nicolai Meyer (which decided nine games) and shared with Meyer's radar partner Sebastian Dives. 

 Season came to an abrupt end when Darren had to bråckopereras just before the playoff series began, but he is now restored and in full training. After the summer, he returns with her partner and newborn son Declan to Västervik for one more season in the FOLD.

Darren Nowick came to Västerviks IK summer 2018 after games in the AHL clubs Stockton Heat and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Prior to this, Darren played four successful seasons college hockey in the prestigious Northern Michigan University and junior hockey in the Vernon Vipers in Canada's British Columbia. Originally Darren from Long Beach in California where his older brother Dustin did little brother to start playing hockey.

Västerviks IK's sporting Director Emil georgsson is extra happy today:

-We are really pleased that Darren returns to us next season. Already from the start last summer, he showed that he would become an important player for us and during the season, he was just better and better. 

-Darren has a playing style that is perfect for Swedish hockey in General and in particular in Västervik. Good on skates, strong on the puck and skilled in small areas. To get the build with Darren next season feels inspirational.-Darren has several times pointed out how good he thrived in vastervik and he chose to play for the FOLD next season also proves that we are doing something good in our little society.
