Thunder Sign Former Vernon Viper Captain McCarthy:

The New Zealand Ice Hockey League Dunedin Thunder have signed former Vernon Vipers forward/captain Colton McCarthy.

The Dunedin Thunder is an ice hockey team based in Dunedin, New Zealand and are members of the New Zealand Ice Hockey League. The club plays their home games at the Dunedin Ice Stadium. The Thunder were founded in 2008 and joined the league as an expansion team. The clubs won their first regular season title in 2013 and have finished as runner-up in the playoffs in 2013 and 2014.

McCarthy spent the previous three seasons playing at SAIT (Southern AB Inst. of Tech) before joining the Thunder in April 2019.

McCarthy played parts of two seasons in Vernon (2014-2016). McCarthy started the 2014-15 season with the Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders before signing with the Vipers November 16th 2014. In 91 career games with the Vipers, McCarthy collected (31-goals-27-assists-58-points).

⚡️Import Announcement 2019⚡️ The Dunedin Thunder would like to introduce our third Canadian import, Colton McCarthy. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ The 23-year-old center is a team mate of Connor and Parker and we are stoked to have the trio! Coming straight from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. ๐ŸŽ“Colton is in the 3rd year of his degree, majoring in Geographic Information Systems. ๐Ÿ’Since playing for SAIT, he has played 28 games, gaining 16 goals and 18 assists.
