Former Vernon Viper Wilson Earns ECAC All-Academic Honors:

The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team has placed 23 student-athletes on the 2017-18 ECAC Hockey All-Academic team, one is former Vernon Vipers defenceman Jared Wilson.

The American Hockey League Bakersfield Condors signed Wilson July 13 2018.

Wilson finished his fourth and final season at RPI (Rensselaer Polytech. Inst.) last year, signed his first professional contract with the East Coast Hockey League Toledo Walleye March 13 2018. In 10 games with the Walleye Wilson collected (0-goals-4-assists-4-points).

Wilson played parts of one season In Vernon (2013-14) played in 48 games with the Vipers collected (5-goals-23-assists-28-points) after coming over in a trade with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. On October 1st 2013 the Vipers traded Craig Martin & future considerations to the Bulldogs for Jared Wilson. Wilson attended the Calgary Flames development camp in 2016 and the Anaheim Ducks development camp in 2017.

Men's Hockey Sees 23 Make ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team

TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team has placed 23 student-athletes on the 2017-18 ECAC Hockey All-Academic team, the league has announced. All three seniors made the squad for their fourth consecutive years, respectively. 

Sophomore defenseman TJ Samec (St. Paul, MN/Brookings Blizzard), freshman goaltender Linden Marshall (Victoria, BC/Trail Smoke Eaters) and sophomore forward Max Reisinger (Walding, Austria/Minor Minotauros) were the three engineering majors to make the list, while the other 20 are Business & Management, including four-time recipient Prapavessis and classmates Viktor Liljegren (Stockholm, Sweden/Fairbanks Ice Dogs) and Jared Wilson (Calgary, AB/Vernon Vipers). Two were recognized for the third time in their careers, including juniors Tommy Grant (Sparta, NJ/Bay State Breakers), Jesper Ohrvall (Halmstad, Sweden/Fairbanks Ice Dogs) and Evan Tironese (Qualicum Beach, BC/Alberni Valley Bulldogs).

The 14 first-time honorees included the team's top scorer from 2017-18, sophomore Jacob Hayhurst (Missassauga, ON/Cedar Rapids RoughRiders) and Marhall, who started a team-best 28 games between the pipes.

Players are eligible for the All-Academic team if they earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters.
