Blazers trim roster to 23 players

posted October 12, 2018 by John Luke Kieper

The Kamloops Blazers have officially brought their roster down to the required 23 players today.

The news broke after the Blazers reassigned 19-year-old defenseman Tylor Ludwar to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL.

Ludwar, who was born in Regina, suited up for 73 games with the club over three seasons and scored one goal while collecting four assists.

The Blazers’ current roster now includes 14 forwards, seven defenseman and two goaltenders.

Up next for the Blazers is a game against the Vancouver Giants tonight in Langley. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.

With the addition of Ludwar, that makes 9 defencemen on the team and a total of 24 players, one over the roster limit. Maybe Chorney's injury is long term and Ludwar could come onto the roster as his replacement without a deletion being necessary. But..... the lack of scoring has really hurt the team. Another piece of information about the trade: Ludwar is from Regina. Home of the new owners. Is this the beginning of a pipeline from Saskatchewan?

It looks like a trade can't be far away.

I could see Andres being the odd man out.. he has not had a strong start to the season and is a 20 yr old

I don't really know much about the new defenceman other then his stats. I do like his size and that he has two years of experience playing in the Western Hockey League.

The Vipers now have nine defencemen and twenty four players, meaning one player/d-man will have to go. I may have to agree with Bobby C and think Mitch Andres may be the odd man out. I also don't think he's played all that well or looked very solid this year coming back for a second year and as a twenty year old. Carver Watson hasn't really stood out in my mind so far. I don't think he's looked bad or played all that well, I just don't really notice him much.

We will see more trades-roster moves in the next week or so?

When will the Vipers make a move for a proven goal scorer or a kid that can put the puck in the net? Or will they? The Vipers lack scoring, don't have a goal scorer that can get you a goal when needed. The Vipers knew last season, they were losing all their top scorer's/skilled players. Josh Prokop was the guy I think the Snakes were relying on this year for their offense/goals. The Vipers didn't replace any of their offensive players/goal scorers from last year. Why didn't the Vipers recruit or try and acquire a goal scorer/or offensive player before the start of training camp? Were the Vipers relying on the veterans coming back and or the new recruits to fill the voids of Jimmy Lambert, Brett Stapley, Jordan Sandhu, Derek Brown, Niko Karamanis. I think the Vipers were expecting more from Connor Marritt, Coleton Bilodeau and Alex Swetlikoff and so was I. Vernon traded one of their recruits recently in Nicholas Wildgoose and Teddy Wooding and Logan Cash haven't put up the numbers so far this season. They both have potential but are either inconsistent or not quite their yet.

How come Sebastian Streu hasn't played yet? Will he make his Vipers debut tomorrow in Chilliwack?
