Vees Hold Off Vipers At Buzzer
October 7, 2017 HockeyTube
Vees Beat Vipers At Buzzer – It’s one of the best rivalries in Junior A hockey and last night’s first meeting of the 2017-18 season did not disappoint and in classic rivalry fashion ended on a controversial call.
With Penticton leading 3-2 in the final seconds, the Vees are assessed a minor penalty allowing the Vipers to pull their goalie and go 6-on-4. After a corner scrum the pucks comes lose and is fired on net and it appears to go in before the horn sounds. But its way to close to call and the officials rule no goal.
While some fans believe that the goal should have been video reviewed (Penticton has the capabilities) the BCHL says that according to its rules:
“There will be no video-replay reviews of goals resulting from high sticks, kicking motions or if the puck crossed the line before the buzzer. Those situations will still have to be decided upon by the on-ice officials. Any replay will only be for determining whether or not a puck crossed the goal line.”
No question that it was in goal…but did it cross the line with time on the clock. Tough call but it makes for a better rematch tonight at Kal Tire place between the two teams.
