Ufberg earns BCHL POW honours
October 23, 2017
Vernon Vipers defenceman Michael Ufberg has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 22, the league announced Monday.
Ufberg tallied four points, including his first two goals of the season, in Vernon’s two games over the weekend. On Saturday, the 20-year-old scored his team’s second goal in the first period as the Vipers jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Surrey Eagles, but ended up losing the game 5-4. He followed that up on Sunday with a goal and two assists in his team’s convincing win over the Trail Smoke Eaters. He was named the second star in both games.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound native of Richboro, Pa. now has 11 points in 16 games in his second BCHL season, good enough for a tie for fifth in league-scoring among defencemen and one ahead of fellow Vipers defencemen Jack Judson and Michael Young. After the weekend’s games, Vernon is tied for first in the Interior Division with the West Kelowna Warriors and also tied for the league lead with the Warriors and the Langley Rivermen with 22 points. Ufberg is committed to Princeton for the 2018-19 season
