Former Viper Soukoroff Named To Canada West Camp Roster:

Former Vernon Vipers defencemen Reece Soukoroff has been named to the selection camp roster of Canada West for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge. 

Soukoroff attended the Vipers Training Camp this year, played in some exhibition games before being released. Soukoroff is now playing with the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Okotoks Oilers. In 27 games this season with the Oilers, Soukoroff has (6-goals-5-assists-11-points).

Team Canada West camp roster includes 18 from the BCHL

There will be 18 players from the BCHL among the hopefuls for Team Canada West and the 2015 World Junior A Challenge (WJAC).

Camp runs from Dec. 5 to 8 in Leduc, Alta.

The team will be selected from players from the BCHL, Alberta Junior Hockey League, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League and Superior International Junior Hockey League.

The Chilliwack Chiefs will be sending the most players to the camp from the BCHL with five. Powell River will send three.

The AJHL is sending the most to the tryout with 24.

Team Canada West has won gold at the WJAC on three occasions, the last being in 2011 in Langley. The United States has claimed gold six times, including the last three years in a row. Only Canada West or the U.S. has ever won the event since its inception in 2006.

Notable players to play in the WJAC include Nail Yakupov, Cam Talbot, Kyle Turris, Nik Ehlers, Mikhail Grigorenko, Brock Boeser, Beau Bennett, Dmitri Kulikov, Oscar Dansk, Mat Bodie, Justin Schultz and Alexander Burmistrov.

The 2015 WJAC will be co-hosted by Whitby and Cobourg, Ont. from Dec. 13 to 19.

Also representing the BCHL on Team Canada West will be league executive director Trevor Alto, who will be the team's director of operations and Coquitlam Express head coach Barry Wolff who will be an assistant coach under Tim Fragle.
