Weinstein Named Atlantic Hockey Rookie Of The Week

October 31, 2011

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman defenseman Steve Weinstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon Vipers) was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Weinstein had a big night last Tuesday as Bentley won its Atlantic Hockey opener 7-3 over Sacred Heart. He assisted on four of the seven goals, one in the first period and three in the second. It was the first time since Anthony Canzoneri had four against UConn on Feb. 15, 2008 that a Falcon has had that many assists in a game.

With five assists and five points on the season, Weinstein, who has played in five of seven games so far, is the top scorer among Atlantic Hockey defenseman and is tied for third among rookies (with teammate Alex Grieve among others, and one behind Brett Switzer for second).

After matching up with Clarkson at home over the weekend, the Falcons are back to conference play this weekend when they travel to Buffalo for a two-game set against Canisius beginning on Saturday.
