The End Of The Doyle Cup:

This is posted on Brian Wiebes Merritt Centennials Blog:

As was confirmed on Dan Marshall's Clippers radio show on 106.9 The Wolf tonight, 2012 represents the last year the BCHL and AJHL champions will face off for the Doyle Cup.

It's also the last year that the SJHL and MJHL champions compete for the Avanet Cup.

Starting in 2013, the five team tournament will be a Memorial Cup style format, except it'll feature the four league champions from the BCHL, AJHL, SJHL and MJHL, plus the host team.

It's already been determined that a BCHL team will host the inaugural tournament from April 26 - May 5, 2013. Teams around the circuit have until December 15 to submit a hosting bid, with Nanaimo owner Ken Wagner being the first to go public with the Clippers desire to host.

Word is that the top two teams in the Western Canadian Junior A Championship would advance to the RBC National Junior A Championship, which is in Summerside, PEI.

The Centennials won the predecessor to Doyle Cup -- the Pacific Centennials Cup -- in 1978.
