Former Viper Skirving Makes Royals 2024-25 Season-Opening Roster:

roster. Former Vernon Vipers forward Todd Skirving is one of twenty three players to make the Royals season-opening roster.

Skirving is in his first season with the Reading Royals. The Royals signed Skirving July 29th 2024.
Skirving split the 2023-24 season with the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers & ECHL Florida Everblades. Skirving and the Everblades won the 2024 Kelly Cup.
Skirving spent the past five seasons with the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers before joining the Everblades in April 2024. The Everblades signed Skirving April 6th 2024. The Royals are Skirvings seventh team in seven years.
The League’s Board of Governors voted to terminate the Membership of the Newfoundland Growlers, effective immediately, for failure to fulfill its obligations under the ECHL Bylaws. The ECHL and Professional Hockey Players’ Association have agreed that as per the ECHL/PHPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, all ECHL Contracted Players on the Newfoundland roster are Unrestricted Free Agents, however no ECHL Member may sign more than two (2) Players from the free agent pool of Newfoundland Players. Any Player from this pool who signs and finishes the Season with a new ECHL Member for the balance of the 2023-24 Season shall be ineligible for that Member's Protected List and shall become an Unrestricted Free Agent at the conclusion of the 2023-24 Season.
Skirving didn't play professional hockey during the 2020-21 season as the Growlers decided to opt out of the 2020-21 season under the ECHL's COVID-19 Voluntary Suspension Policy. Skirving spent the 2020-21 season as an Assistant Coach with the BCHL expansion Cranbrook Bucks. Skirving and the Bucks went 3-16-0-1 during the 2020-21 pod season.
Skirving played four years at Rochester Institute of Technology from 2013-2017 before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Orlando Solar Bears August 3rd 2017. Skirving spent the 2017-18 season playing with Orlando, Utah and Atlanta before signing a professional contract with the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers October 16th 2018.
Skirving committed to the Vernon Vipers for the 2010-11 season. Skirving played with the 2010-11 Vernon Vipers. The Vipers traded Skirving and future considerations to the Prince George Spruce Kings January 10th 2011 for Ryan Renz. In 34 games with the Vipers, Skirving collected (4-goals-5-assists-9-points).

Swetlikoff split the 2023-24 season between the ECHL Savannah Ghost Pirates & American Hockey League Henderson Silver Knights.
In 19 games last season with the Silver Knights, Swetlikoff collected (3-goals-0-assists-3-points). In 24 games last season with the Ghost Pirates, Swetlikoff collected (8-goals-13-assists-21-points).
Swetlikoff played parts of four seasons with the Western Hockey League Kelowna Rockets & Everett Silvertips before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Henderson Silver Knights August 19th 2022. The Ghost Pirates claimed Swetlikoff off waivers from the Silver Knights October 10th 2022.
Swetlikoff attended the Las Vegas Golden Knights Development Camp in July 2022.
Swetlikoff played parts of two seasons in Vernon with the 2017-18 & 2018-19 Vernon Vipers. Swetlikoff left the Vipers December 18th 2018 for the Western Hockey League Kelowna Rockets. The Rockets acquired Swetlikoff's rights from the Lethbridge Hurricanes December 6th 2018. In 78 games with the Vipers, Swetlikoff collected (11-goals-23-assists-34-points).

Game Recap - Penticton Vees 5 Vernon Vipers 4 Overtime
I was born and raised in Vernon, BC and been watching/following Junior hockey in Vernon my whole life. My family watched Senior men's hockey in Vernon in the 1950's and has been watching Junior hockey in Vernon since it started in 1961. I have two family members that played Junior hockey in Vernon. I have had season tickets since 1990 missing only 40 home games. Since 2001 I have missed 10 home games. I started and created this blog in November 2008 and have over 3 million viewers. For anyone who couldn't watch or attend tonight's Vipers game, here are my thoughts and views from tonight's hockey game. You may agree or disagree, but we all have our own opinion on the hockey game and see things differently. I try to be professional and give a fare game recap from both sides. Thank you for visiting my blog.
I was at tonight's game between the Vernon Vipers & Penticton Vees as the Vees defeated the Vipers 5-4 in overtime in front of 2,756 fans at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Starting Goaltenders:
Vernon Vipers: Colin Reay
Penticton Vees: Andrew Ness
2nd Period: The Vees re-grouped and come ready to play in the middle frame. The Vees started the period with the man advantage that was carried over from the 1st period. The Vipers were able to kill off the remainder of the penalty before taking another minor, sending the Vees back to PP. Penticton would capitalize with the man advantage, before scoring shorthanded and then tied the game in a 2nd period comeback. It was all Vees as Penticton flipped the switch and dominated the Snakes for most of the period. The Vees got there legs going, were skating, moving the puck, creating/generating plays/chances and didn't give the Vipers much breathing room. The Vees carried most of the play, had a ton of puck possession and loads of zone time. The Vipers didn't look good and got away from there game, struggled offensively, other then a couple of good shifts, Vernon didn't look like the same team and looked rattled after giving up three goals. Both goaltenders didn't see a whole lot of action as both teams didn't get a lot of rubber to the net. It was 4-3 Vernon after 40 minutes of play. Shots were 7-7.
3rd Period: The Vipers responded with a much better period and had a slight edge in play early. Vernon had a couple of early good looks/opportunities but Will Ingemann made a couple of big stops in a goal game. Jakub Galnor took a hit and stayed down on the ice, struggled to get back to the Vipers bench, didn't see another shift. The Vees started to generate some offence and get going near the second half before Landon Wright hit the post with about eight minutes remaining. Shortly after Colin Reay couldn't handle a Vees point shot before former Vipers "AP" Ryder Evers tied the game at 13:33 This goal gave the Vees life, got the crowd back into the game as momentum changed a bit and the Vees come on strong late to end the period. It was 4-4 after 60 minutes of play. Shots were 11-11.
Overtime: The Snakes had the early edge in play in the extra frame. The Vipers had one or two good looks to end it as both teams went back and fourth. Penticton would get the only power play in OT but the Vipers were able to kill it off. I thought Vernon looked good in the first half, while the Vees looked good in the second half. With time winding down and the game looking to be going to a shootout, Brock Reinhart deked out Colin Reay to give the Penticton Vees a 5-4 overtime victory at 944 as the Vees bench erupted onto the ice. Shots were 7-5 Vees.
Vernon Vipers Top Performers:
Landon MacDonald (1 goal) I thought played well in the loss this evening
Marko Stojkov played well on the Vipers backend
Jakub Galnor I thought played one of his best games of the season. Galnor took a hit or collided with a Vees player in the 3rd period and didn't get up, needed help off the ice, didn't see another shift.
Shea Busch (1 goal & 1 assist) Has really come into his own this season and played well tonight in the Peach City. Busch had one if not two quality chances in overtime
Game Thought's: Vernon Vipers
- Including the preseason, the Vipers are 0-3 vs the Vees this season
- The Vipers next game is Wednesday vs the visiting Victoria Grizzlies
- Other then the 2nd period, Vernon held there own vs a very good Penticton team.
- The Vipers have lost eleven straight regular season games in Penticton going back to 2019
- Several Vernon Vipers fans at tonight's game
- The Snakes played probably there best period of hockey this season in the 1st period. Vernon dominated the Vees from start to finish, had a 3-0 lead were all over Penticton. The Vipers were hitting, skating, moving the puck, creating/generating chances, looked very good and played very well on the road vs one of the leagues top teams
- The Vipers & Vees play each other six times this season
- The Vipers have only four wins in there last twenty eight games vs Penticton
- Vernon went 0-1 with the power play
- Jakub Galnor either took a hit or collided with a Vees player in the 3rd period, had troubles getting up on his feet, needed help to the bench and didn't see another shift
- Tonight was the sixth and final game of a six game road trip
- The Vipers last regular season win in Penticton was a 2-1 overtime victory on October 18th 2019
- After a great 1st period, the Vipers fell apart in the 2nd period and weren't the same team. Penticton was all over the Vipers, outplayed Vernon for most of the period other then a couple of shifts. The Vipers blew a 3-0 lead, allowing the Vees to tie the game. The Vipers struggled at both ends of the rink, didn't look good or play good
- The Snakes play five of their next six games at home
- The Vipers are 3-5-1-0 on the road this season
- One thing I have noticed this year and really noticed in both games this weekend, is how much better the Vipers passing is this season compared to any of the years Jason McKee was Head Coach/GM
- The Vipers have won three of their last five games
- After a terrible 2nd period, Vernon responded with a much better effort in the 3rd. I thought the Vipers played much better in the 3rd, had a slight edge in play early. The Vipers had a couple of good looks/opportunities to go ahead by two but couldn't capitalize before allowing the Vees to tie the game late
- The Vipers have lost twenty of there last twenty one games to Penticton
- Other then the 2nd period, this was a very good/entertaining hockey game
- I have missed only two Vipers games in Penticton since 2006
- Vernon has at least a point in four of there last five games
- The Vipers can't blow a 3-0 lead no matter who they are playing. These are games you need to find a way to finish the game with the win
- With the overtime loss, Vernon falls to 4-7-2-0 sit 10th in the Interior Conference
Penticton Vees Top Performers:
Max Heise I thought looked good at times and played well in the win over Vernon
Anselmo Rego (1 goal) Stood out, sees a lot of ice, is hard to contain/defend, played a hard fought game and looked good through out the game
Will Ingemann (23 saves) Replaced starting goaltender Andrew Ness at the radio timeout, and played well for the remainder of the hockey game. Ingemann was forced to make some big stops at key times in the hockey game with Vernon ahead at different times
Game Thought's: Penticton Vees
- The Vees home record improves to 4-0-0-0
- A much smaller crowd then normal when the Vipers are in town. Tonight's attendance was announced at 2,756
- Forward Ryden Evers was an "AP" with the 2021-22 Vernon Vipers
- The Vees have won twenty four of there last twenty eight games vs the Vipers
- The Vees are so good, you can never count this team out, no matter what the score is. Penticton was down 3-0 after one period, stormed back with three straight goals in the 2nd period to make a game of it. Year after year after year the Vees somehow seem to put together a championship/winning team on the ice
- The Vees went 1-4 with the man advantage
- The Vees didn't get off to a great start and didn't look good in the 1st period. Penticton was down 3-0 and needed ten minutes to record there first shot of the hockey game. The Vees struggled at both ends of the rink, were outplayed/dominated for most of the opening period.
- The Vipers & Vees will play again November 23rd in Penticton
- I remember watching a young Fred Harbinson play for the Calgary Canucks in the Doyle Cup vs the Vernon Lakers in 1991

Penticton would rally, scoring three straight goals to tie the game, totally dominated the Vipers for most of the period. The Vees were skating, moving the puck, making plays, had more puck possession, zone time and were just the better team

- The Vees play three of their next five games on home ice
- Landon Wright hit the post in the 3rd with the Vees down 4-3
- Forward Eli McKamey was granted exceptional status this season to play in the BCHL as a 15 year old
- The Vees have won three of there last five games and eight of there last ten games
- Vees Head Coach/GM/President Fred Harbinson is in his 18th season with the Penticton Vees
- The Vees were down 4-3 heading into the 3rd, couldn't seem to get much going early as the Vipers had a slight edge in play, but as the period continued I thought Penticton slowly started to come on and played much better and even may have had a bit of edge in play in the second half, were able to force overtime after Ryden Evers game tying goal at 13:33
- The Vees have won eleven straight home games over the Vipers going back to 2019
- With the win, Penticton improves to 10-3-0-0 sit 2nd in the Interior Conference
