Vipers Alumni Finlay Named ECHL Rookie Of The Month:

The ECHL has named former Vernon Vipers forward Liam

Finlay Howies Hockey Tape ECHL Rookie of the Month for February.

Finlay is in his first season with the ECHL Allen Americans. The Americans signed Finlay September 27th 2022. In 43 games, Finlay has (27-goals-32-assists-59-points).

Finlay played the past two seasons in Europe playing with four different teams (KOVEE, HK Nitra, Tingsryds AIF & EHC Freiburg) from 2020-2022.

Finlay played four years at Denver University from 2016-2020 before signing his first professional contract with Koovee September 7th 2020. Koovee is a Finnish ice hockey team that plays in the Mestis, second-tier league where the team is based in Tampere, Finland. 

Finlay attended the Vancouver Canucks development camp in July 2019.

Finlay played parts of two seasons in Vernon (2014-2016) after coming over in a trade with the Penticton Vees. The Vipers traded the Junior A playing rights of Dakota Conroy & future considerations October 28th 2014 to the Penticton Vees for Liam Finlay. In 96 games with the Vipers, Finlay collected (39-goals-69-assists-109-points).

Ex Viper Tryout Maser Scores Game Winner In Canada West Final:

Former Vernon Vipers tryout forward Josh Maser scored the game winner at

16:45 of the 3rd period In Game 3 March 5th 2023 at the Canada West Final to give the University of Calgary Dinos a 2-1 victory over the University of Alberta Golden Bears and their first Canada West Championship since 1996.

Maser is in his second season at the University of Calgary. In 28 games, Maser has (9-goals-10-assists-19-points). 

Maser played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince George Cougars before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Iowa Wild July 22nd 2020. Maser split the 2020-21 season with the American Hockey League Iowa Wild & ECHL Allen Americans.

Maser attended the Vernon Vipers training camp in August 2016 before leaving camp for the Western Hockey League Prince Albert Raiders training camp. The Raiders traded Maser to Prince George October 18th 2016.

Host Don Klepp catches up with former Vernon Viper Kyle Bigos who played two seasons with the Vipers and won a Royal Bank Cup in 2009. The big defenceman put up 58 points with the Vipers including 343 PIMS. He attended Merrimack College and graduated in 2013.

Former Vernon Viper Martin Nominated For ECHL Player Of The Month:

Former Vernon Vipers forward Craig Martin was nominated for the ECHL

 Player of the Month for February.

Here is the press release from the ECHL website,


Martin started the 2022-23 season with HC Grotto before signing with the ECHL Jacksonville Icemen December 13th 2022. HC Grotto is an ice hockey team playing in the Slovak Extraliga. They play in the city of Prešov, Slovakia. In 31 games with the Icemen this season, Martin has (13-goals-19-assists-32-points).

Martin played the past three seasons with the ECHL Jacksonville Icemen before going to Slovakia for the 2022-23 season. HC Grotto signed Martin June 6th 2022. 

The Icemen loaned Martin to the American Hockey League Charolotte Checkers January 3rd 2022. Martin went pointless in 3 games with the Checkers, was released and returned to the ECHL January 26th 2022.

Martin played four seasons at Quinnipiac University from 2015-2019 before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Springfield Thunderbirds April 2nd 2019. Martin didn't play a game with the Thunderbirds, was released, later signing with the ECHL Adirondak Thunder July 8th 2019. The Thunder traded Martin to Jacksonville November 26th 2019.

Martin played parts of two seasons in Vernon from 2011-2013. The Vipers traded Martin and future considerations to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs October 1st 2013 for Jared Wilson. In 46 games with the Vipers, Martin collected (10-goals-13-assists-23-points). Martin played parts of four seasons in the BCHL with Vernon, Alberni Valley & Trail from 2011-2015.

Ex Vernon Viper Prokop Scores Overtime Winner In Game 2 Of Canada West Final:

Former Vernon Vipers forward Josh Prokop scored at 1:47 into overtime,

giving the University of Alberta Golden Bears a 5-4 overtime victory over the University of Calgary Dinos forcing Game 3 in the Canada West Final.

Prokop is in his second season at the University of Alberta. In 28 games this season, Prokop collected (18-goals-19-assists-37-points).

Prokop played three seasons with the Western Hockey League Calgary Hitmen before committing to the University of Alberta Golden Bears for the 2021-22 season. Prokop was captain of the Hitmen in his final season of Junior hockey. 

Prokop was recruited and committed to the Vernon Vipers in 2017. Prokop played parts of two seasons in Vernon from 2017-2018 left the Vipers September 26th 2018 for the Western Hockey League Calgary Hitmen. Prokop returned to Vernon in 2020. With the Western Hockey League 2020-21 season on hold due to COVID-19 the Vipers signed Prokop October 29th 2020. Prokop played in six exhibition games with the Vipers at the 2020 Okanagan Cup. Prokop returned to the Hitmen in March 2021. In 60 games with the Vipers, Prokop collected (23-goals-22-assists-45-points).

Former Vipers Captain Williamson Records Four Points in Win Over Rail Yard Dawgs:

Former Vernon Vipers forward/captain Jagger Williamson scored twice and

added two assists in a 4-1 victory over the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs February 23rd 2023.

Williamson is in his first season with the Southern Professional Hockey League Knoxville Ice Bears. In 44 games, Williamson has (8-goals-22-assists-30-points). The Ice Bears signed Williamson this past summer.

Williamson played the past two seasons with the Federal Prospects Hockey League Columbus River Dragons. Williamson broke his leg in his first ever game with the River Dragons, missing the entire 2019-20 season. In 31 games last season, Williamson collected (14-goals-19-assists-33-points).

Williamson committed to Michigan Tech University for the 2019-20 season, but ended up signing a professional contract with the Federal Prospects Hockey League Columbus River Dragons for the 2019-20 season.

Williamson played five seasons in Vernon from 2014-2019. In 233 games with the Vipers, Williamson collected (54-goals-119-assists-173-points).

Williamson and former Vernon Lakers/Vernon Vipers forward Garth Gartner hold the franchise record for most games played with 233 games each. Gartner played four seasons in Vernon from 1994-1998 with the Vernon Lakers & Vernon Vipers. 

The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1995.

Ex Viper Andrusiak Named ECHL Player Of The Week:

Former Vernon Vipers forward Zach Andrusiak has been named the ECHL

Andrusiak is in his second season with the ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones. In 45 games, Andrusiak has (22-goals-34-assists-56-points).

Andrusiak split the 2021-22 season with the ECHL Idaho Steelheads, Cincinnati Cyclones & American Hockey League Tucson Roadrunners. Andrusiak started the 2021-22 season with the Steelheads was traded to Cincinnati January 25th 2022. The Cyclones loaned Andrusiak to the American Hockey League Tucson Roadrunners March 3rd 2022. Andrusiak went pointless in two games with the Roadrunners, was returned to Cincinnati March 11th 2022.

Andrusiak played three seasons in the Western Hockey League from 2016-2019 with Tri-Cities, Seattle, Prince Albert & Everett before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Idaho Steelheads August 8th 2019.

Andrusiak started the 2015-16 season with the Western Hockey League Tri-City Americans, was released early into the 2015-16 season. The Vernon Vipers signed Andrusiak October 1st 2015. Andrusiak was released November 5th 2015. In 15 games with the Vipers, Andrusiak collected (0-goals-2-assists-2-points).
