Jackson recently finished his first season as Head Coach at the University of North Dakota was named National Collegiate Hockey Conference Herb Brooks Coach of the Year March 18th 2026 & named finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award in March 2026. Jackson has spent the past nineteen seasons at North Dakota as an Assistant Coach & Associate Head Coach.

Jackson played four seasons at North Dakota from 1988-1992 before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Hamilton Canucks in 1992. Jackson was drafted 44th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in Round 3 at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Jackson played four seasons in the NHL with Vancouver, Buffalo & the New York Islanders from 1993-1998 before retiring from professional hockey in 2003.

Jackson played one season in Vernon with the 1987-88 Vernon Lakers. In 49 games with the Lakers, Jackson collected (24-goals-30-assists-54-points).

The Vernon Lakers were one of seven different names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since 1961. The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1995.
