On This Day In Vernon Junior Hockey History:

Fifty six years ago today (March 19th 1970) Vernon Essos forward Jack Marsh

scored at 4:07 of double overtime in Game 6 of the BCJHL league finals giving the Vernon Essos a 5-4 double overtime victory over the Victoria Cougars in front of 5,219 fans at the Victoria Memorial Arena. The Essos won the best of 7 playoff series in 6 games winning the league championship for the first time in franchise history.

The Vernon Essos were one of seven different team names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since 1961. The Vernon Essos were around from 1967-1973 before changing their name to the Vernon Vikings in 1973.
