The ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) is a minor professional ice hockey league based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, with teams across the United States and Canada. Competitively, it is a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The league serves as a farm system to the AHL and the National Hockey League (NHL).

Ramsay is in his seventh season as Head Coach/GM with the ECHL Wichita Thunder. Ramsay was named the ECHL Coach of the Year in 2021.
Ramsay played sixteen seasons of professional hockey before retiring in 2005. Ramsay has spent twenty seven seasons coaching in the ACHL, UHL, IHL, CHL, AHL & ECHL with four different teams (Muskegon, Tulsa, Grand Rapids and Wichita).
Ramsay played one season in Vernon with the 1989-90 Vernon Lakers. In 53 games with the Lakers, Ramsay collected (11-goals-11-assists-22-points). Ramsay was captain of the 1989-90 Vernon Lakers that hosted and won the 1990 Centennial Cup.
The Vernon Lakers were one of seven different team names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since 1961. The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1996.
