For long time fans, Beryl Nerling would not accept “minimum requiremnts”. She lead the charge for an upgrade of the scoreboard for Kal Tire Place which, resulted in our current centre ice one.
The City should not just do what is required, it should go over and beyond what is required, that way we won’t need an upgrade for many many years.
At the annual general meeting in June 2022, the BCHL announced that all teams will be required to reach a certain level of standard by the end of the 2025-26 season. One of these requirements is the capability to have video replay and review technology up and running.
Maybe the City of Vernon staff could finally fix the water fountain at the north end of the arena that’s been hanging loose for months with a bag over it. Why do things take so long to get done? It’s embarrassing
When your dealing with corp. Vernon one must understand that there are many things the people of Vernon want and need. Kal tire place wants and needs are but on the list. On the list things are done according to priority. Thats how corp. decisions are made. You need to write letters to the city council to push them to get things done.
I remember talking with Duncan Wray when the arena was first opened. I was shocked to hear nobody asked the Vipers for input or ideas when they were building the arena. Duncan told me when the arena was being built, they never once came to him or asked him about the arena or if he had any suggestions/ideas for the dressing rooms, offices etc. Duncan also told me, we were very lucky to have the scoreboard we have now as they were going to have a scoreboard like they had in the Civic Arena on one of the end walls instead of the hanging scoreboard. I remember when the arena opened, they didn't have shot clocks until they were added a few years later. They were suppose to add more press boxes/sky boxes but didn't. They also should have built a much larger concession.
Be happy your getting a new scoreboard only because the BCHL pushed them into a corner and told them they had to or you would still be looking at the old one for decades too come. Maybe the BCHL needs to push the city into other types of demands regards upgrades such as up to date goal on light which has been an issue. Anyway continue to write letters to the city pushing for change because talking about it only goes so far. GO,VIPERS,GO.
