HIA Management, LLC, Hollydell Ice Arena and the Philadelphia Hockey Club have named former Vernon Lakers-Vernon Vipers forward, Assistant Coach & Head Coach-GM Troy Mick GM of the NCDC Junior A Tier 2 program and the Head Coach for PHC's 16U teams. The Philadelphia hockey club recently purchased a tier 2 Junior franchise competing in the USPHL's NCDC.

Earlier this season, Mick was named part-owner and new Head Coach/GM of the Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League Cold Lake Wings August 24th 2019. Mick reportedly left the Wings September 25th 2019. After Mick left, the Wings suspended operations for the 2019-2020 Greater Metro Junior Hockey League season.
The Greater Metro Hockey League (GMHL) was originally founded as the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League (GMHL) by Bob Russell and Hockeyworks International Ltd., in 2006. The Cold Lake Wings are one of six expansion teams for the 2019-20 season. The GMHL is a Canadian developmental junior ice hockey league with twenty five teams. The league has teams in the Greater Toronto area, Central Ontario, Northeastern Ontario, Alberta & Quebec. The GMHL is an independent junior hockey league and not a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League or sanctioned by Hockey Canada.
Mick has been out of the hockey business, and was recently selling real estate In Vernon with Royal LePage after parting ways with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks June 8th 2018. Mick had spent the past six seasons with the Silverbacks as General Manager, Head Coach, President and part owner.
Mick was named the new president of the USA Central Hockey League and a USA Central Hockey League advisor July 23 2018. The USA CHL started out as a six-team league with all the teams owned by the same group. Franchises in Rio Grande Valley and Laredo have already been publicized. Mick only lasted a few months before returning home to sell real estate in Vernon.
Mick played two seasons with the Vernon Lakers (1984-1986) before leaving the Lakers for the Merritt Warriors. Mick was also an Assistant Coach and in charge of marketing with the Vernon Lakers for two seasons (1993-1995) & spent one season as an Assistant Coach with the Vernon Vipers (1995-1996) before being named the Vipers Head Coach-GM the following season. Mick was Head Coach-GM of the Vipers for four years (1996-2000) before leaving for the Western Hockey League Portland Winterhawks. Mick returned to the Vipers as GM for two seasons (2005-07) before leaving in 2007 to sell real estate in Mexico. Mick was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in round 7 #130 overall at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.

HIA Management, LLC, Hollydell Ice Arena and the Philadelphia Hockey Club are pleased to announce the hire of Troy Mick. Coach Mick will serve as the GM of the NCDC Junior A Tier 2 program and the Head Coach for PHC's 16U teams. Troy's playing career at the Junior and Professional levels, combined with his 25 years of experience in coaching, operations and management at levels from 16U to Major Junior make him an invaluable addition to the existing hockey staff at HIA.
“We are very excited that a hockey professional with Troy's background has agreed to join us as we launch our NCDC junior team and grow our PHC midget program to support the junior program. A professional with Troy's integrity, experience, contacts and singular focus on player development and advancement is rare, and we can't wait for Coach Mick to start adding to our program,” said Dr. Jim Mackey, owner of HIA Management, LLC and the Hollydell Ice Arena. “We now have a team of hockey professionals that will allow us to execute on our primary program goal, providing the highest-level hockey experience for kids from 6 to 20,” said Mackey.

Coach Mick was a 3 Year All-Star in the Western Hockey League. He was a 7th Round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins and played professionally in the IHL and ECHL before injuries cut his career short. After his playing career, he immediately transitioned to coaching, with stops in the WHL, BCHL, KIJHL and RMJHL. He has many league and national championships and Coach of the Year awards to his credit. More recently, Coach Mick has excelled as a General Manager for several successful junior programs. In his 25 years, Troy has helped countless players advance to college and professional hockey, and in so doing has developed an unparalleled network of contacts at all levels of the game.
Now entering its 27th year, Hollydell Ice Arena operates 3 hockey clubs that field a total of 30 teams with players ranging from 6 to 20 years old. In addition to its hockey clubs, Hollydell runs a thriving learn to skate program, a large men’s league and is host to a vibrant figure skating club. Hollydell is also home to a range of regional events, including hockey tournaments and a synchronized skating competition. With the recent addition of Dunlop’s Bar & Grill, Hollydell is simultaneously home to high level ice sport athletes and a growing resource for the local community.

Wow, Troy is appointed to another high level hockey position. How many great opportunities does this make in the years since he departed the BCHL? Each time there is a big announcement and then the position fizzles out in a very short time. Who really cares to hear about a washed up hockey exec wanna be? He will be back watching the Vipers with his buddies come playoff time.
