Former Vernon Vipers defenceman Chad Brownlee will be singing live tonight at this week's CFL Thursday Night Football Concert Series at the Edmonton Eskimos/BC Lions game.
Brownlee a current Country music star took home two awards at the 2016 BCCMA Country Awards in October, won Album/EP of the Year (Hearts on Fire) & Male Vocalist of the Year is one of several artists that will be playing in Kelowna at the newest country music festival in September. Brownlee will be the headliner for the new Denim on the Diamond music festival.
"The Best That I Can (Superhero)", his first single, was released in November 2009. Brownlee's self-titled debut album, produced by Mitch Merrett, was released in August 2010. Brownlee won the 2011 CCMA Rising Star award winner, also a recipient of his first JUNO Award nomination for Country Album of the Year on February 19, 2013.
Brownlee played two years in Vernon (2001-03). In 113 regular season games with the Vipers, Brownlee collected (14-goals-28-assists-42-points). Brownlee was drafted in 2003 in the 6th round, by the NHL Vancouver Canucks but retired from hockey after a short stint in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) with the Idaho Steelheads following a series of injuries, before becoming a Country music star.

TORONTO — The Canadian Football League, in partnership with Universal Music Canada, announced on Tuesday that a top artist will perform at each team’s first home Thursday night game in 2018 as part of Thursday Night Football.

Former NHL draft pick turned country star, Chad Brownlee entered the limelight when he received his CCMA Rising Star Award in 2011 and has gone on to be a mainstay in the top 10 at Canadian country radio ever since. The CFL regular season kicks off a week earlier this year, beginning Thursday, June 14th when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Edmonton Eskimos at Investors Group Field. Friday Night Football debuts June 15th when the Saskatchewan Roughriders host the reigning Grey Cup champions, the Toronto Argonauts. On Saturday, June 16th, the first double-header of the season starts with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats heading west to take on the Calgary Stampeders and the finale for Week 1 consists of the Montreal Alouettes playing against the BC Lions at BC Place.
