Restaurant/Sports Lounge For Arena?
Posted on 6/7/2016
The public has made its suggestions about what they would like to see in the new arena being added to Kal Tire Place.
Four input sessions were held around Greater Vernon the last week.
Doug Ross, Recreation Services Director for the City of Vernon, says they got lots of input.
"Topics included parking, ability to load in and out of the building, the need for a warm-up area for athletes, change room features. People were interested in things like white board and shelves, and connecting doors between rooms," says Ross.
Another recurring theme was the need for a restaurant or sports lounge in the facility, and Ross says any businesses interested in that type of venture can contact the city.
"There has been an area of the building that we've identified as lease-able space. It would be in the transition area that would join the two of them together," says Ross.
Ross says the input will now be costed out, and considered for the design for the 13 million dollar arena.
"Everything has a cost, and we have a fixed budget."
Ross says MQN Architects has already started the design process.
"Somebody described it as a Tetris game now. We have all the blocks, and now we have to move them around and see if we can fit them in the space and in the budget," says Ross.
The new 400 seat arena, being added to the north end of the Multiplex, should be done by late 2018.
