Flashback: Game 7 Fred Page Cup 2010
Posted by HockeyTube on Jul 29th, 2016
This summer we are releasing some unseen footage from our archives involving the BCHL Vernon Vipers. In 2010, the Vernon Vipers battled the Powell River Kings for the league title (Fred Page Cup) for the second straight year. And much like the year before, it was a hard fought battle with both teams playing full out. The Kings forced a game seven in Vernon by defeating the Snakes 5-2 at home.
The game remained deadlocked 1-all until the last 5 minutes when the Vipers Sahir Gill scored a controversial goal. Even in the video highlight it’s hard to see how the puck went in, but there was no kicking motion so the Vipers would go up 2-1 in the dying minutes. However that series will not be remembered by the goal that was scored but instead an unbelievable save by Vernon’s Graeme Gordon who somehow dove across the goal crease to stop a possible tying goal from going in.
A minute later, the Vipers Jonathan Milhouse would score an empty net goal (second of the game) to lock up the win and the Fred Page Cup. The Vipers would go on to win the RBC National Championship that season.
