I see eight more cuts today. I hope they did it wisely and now choose a goal keeper, as from what I've seen Maarhuis is the only goaltender that's looked good.
I'm a little surprised at how many recruits/signings either weren't at the Vipers training camp or released after camp or after some exhibition games. Luke Assi, Gianni Bosa & Max Alexander had previously signed with the Vipers for the 2026-27 season have been released, while Jacob Wingfield who was acquired in a trade and Garrett Trench, Ashton Darocy, Bruce Basin, Keegan Shirley & Jason Piccirillo who also signed for the 2026-27 season weren't at training camp. Guess that goes to show you, just because you have committed/signed with a team before the season starts, doesn't mean you'll make the opening night roster.
Matt spoke about their recruiting process and how good it was. If they keep signing and then releasing, players aren’t going to sign anymore. They are going to get to a difficult position if it’s seen they have no commitment to those they sign.
Maybe Wingfield is injured. I can’t see him not reporting given the connection he has to the team.

That’s a good move for him.
Signings means nothing in our league, we are not governed by hockey Canada. The players may choose to play in any league, without us getting anything for them. Even if our top players, could be enticed to play some where else. We are in trouble for years to come, we need to get back into hockey Canada some how.
The way the teams in the bchl handle their players is a large part of the problem. The GM’s and head coach’s in the bchl aren’t committed to the players they sign. Look at Vernon - they brought back Nolan and released him after the camp. Didn’t even get a pre season game. They signed players last year and didn’t really give them a look prior to releasing. They’ve done it to themselves. Players and advisors can’t trust Vernon is the best landing place.
