At the time of the trade, Hicks was playing in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Brooks Bandits. Hicks never reported to Vernon. Hicks and the Bandits eventually joined the BCHL January 20th 2024. Hicks played parts of two seasons with the Brooks Bandits before joining the Western Hockey League Victoria Royals.
