Hayes played parts of the previous three seasons with the CCHL Pembroke Lumber Kings.
Hayes was in his first season with the Vernon Vipers, attended the Vernon Vipers training camp. In 26 games with the Vernon Vipers, Hayes collected (1-goal-3-assists-4-points).

Hayes wasn't the most flashy or skilled defenceman but thought he was a steady d-man that didn't make a lot of mistakes. Not sure why he isn't on the Vipers roster anymore but wishing him all the best in his future
