I was born and raised in Vernon, BC and been watching/following junior hockey in Vernon my entire life. I started and created this blog in 2008 and have over 6 million viewers. I have had season tickets since 1990 missing 46 home games since. My family watched senior men's hockey in Vernon in the 1950's and has been watching/following junior hockey in Vernon since Vernon got a team in 1961. I have two family members that played junior hockey in Vernon. I have programs and ticket stubs going back to 1988 and have every ticket stub and program from every game since 1989. I worked with the Vipers as colour commentator for a few home games during the 2002-03 season and in 2011 helped create and design the Vipers website that I was in charge of running for five seasons.
I was at tonight's Vernon Vipers-Okotoks Oilers game as the Oilers won 4-3 in front of 2,235 fans at Kal Tire Place.
Starting Goaltenders:
Vernon Vipers: Jesse Sanche
Okotoks Oilers: Eric Young
1st Period: The Vipers got into penalty trouble early but had the edge in play at different times in the first half as both teams were also even at different times. Vernon had some good looks/opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net. Eric Young was lucky on a couple of plays but was good between the pipes for the Oilers. The visiting Okotoks Oilers took over the edge in play in the second half and were the better team in the second half. The Oilers hit one post, had a lot more puck possession, zone time and opportunities. Jesse Sanche kept the Snakes in the game, was forced to make several key saves to end the period. It was 0-0 after 20 minutes of play. Shots were 11-8 Okotoks.
2nd Period: The Oilers jumped on the Snakes early and often. Vernon come out flat, stopped skating, struggled in their own end and getting out of their own end. Okotoks forced several turnovers with a strong forecheck and simply hard work to carry the early edge in play. The Oilers were by far the better team in the first half for a good seven to eight minutes, simply outskated and out worked the hometown Vipers, would score back to back goals nine seconds apart to take an early 2-0 lead. Jamie Hlkida took a hit and didn't get up off the ice, needed some attention from the team trainer, was eventually helped off the ice and didn't return for the remainder of the period. The Vernon Vipers responded with a good push back and played very well to end the period as the Snakes were the better team towards the middle of the period and in the second half of the period. Vernon had loads of zone time with a lot of puck possession, were skating, moving the puck and creating/generating lots of quality chances. The Vipers would eventually get two goals of their own, but could have easily had three or four goals with the amount of opportunities they had. Eric Young was the difference making several big stops, keeping this game tied at two. It was 2-2 after 40 minutes of play. Shots were 14-6 Vipers.

I was at tonight's Vernon Vipers-West Kelowna Warriors game as the Warriors won 5-2 in front of 2,240 fans at Kal Tire Place.
Starting Goaltenders:
Vernon Vipers: Jesse Sanche
West Kelowna Warriors: Bor Glavic
1st Period: The Vipers got into penalty trouble early and often, which allowed the visiting West Kelowna Warriors plenty of time on the man advantage. Due to all of the penalties, West Kelowna carried the better of the play as the hometown Vipers were shorthanded a lot of the period. The Warriors carried the better of the play, had more puck possession, zone time and were getting lot's of pucks towards the net. The only problem was the Tribe was unable to capitalize with all these PP's. Vernon's PK was very good. Jesse Sanche also played very well between the pipes, keeping the Snakes in the hockey game. The Vipers needed almost seven minutes to get their first shot on goal and were very limited when it come to five on five and getting any kind of pressure in the offensive zone. The Vipers were very lucky the Warriors PP wasn't clicking as WK could have easily been up three or four goals. It was 1-0 West Kelowna after 20 minutes of play. Shots were 20-5 Warriors.
2nd Period: The Snakes were the better team in the middle frame, were the better team in the first half, had the edge in play. The Vipers had lot's of good looks and quality opportunities early but were unable to get the puck to the net and missed on a couple of what looked to be open nets. The Warriors played better in the second half, were able to get some zone time and a little more puck possession. Tempers heated up with a couple of scrums/fights. The Vipers missed on a couple of real good opportunities, while the Warriors capitalized on a defensive breakdown from the Vipers. It was 3-0 West Kelowna after 40 minutes of play. Shots were 14-12 Warriors.

Tonight is the sixth of seven regular season meetings between the Vernon Vipers & West Kelowna Warriors.
I was born and raised in Vernon, BC and been watching/following junior hockey in Vernon my entire life. I started and created this blog in 2008 and have over 6 million viewers. I have had season tickets since 1990 missing 46 home games since. I was at tonight's Vernon Vipers-Salmon Arm Silverbacks game as the Silverbacks won 3-1 in front of 1,421 fans at Rogers Rink.
Starting Goaltenders:
Vernon Vipers: Oliver Kanat
Salmon Arm Silverbacks: Mikkel Christensen
1st Period: I thought both teams were very even in an even played opening period. The hometown Silverbacks had a lot more shots on goal early and the better scoring chances but overall this was a very fast paced period with both teams going back and fourth. The Silverbacks had a couple of quality opportunities, while the Vipers didn't have much puck luck, hit three posts and a crossbar. Vipers forward Toms Trockis took a puck to the face early and never returned to the hockey game. Both goaltenders played well. It was 1-0 Silverbacks after 20 minutes of play. Shots were 14-11 Salmon Arm.
2nd Period: The Vipers were the better team early and in the first half. Vernon carried the edge in play, had more puck possession and zone time in the first half, but the Gorillas when having the puck, had at least three or four very very good quality chances but Oliver Kanat made some big stops. The Vipers hit another post and Davids Livsics was denied on a late penalty shot. SA played better and had a little more edge in play in the second half. The S'Backs had more puck possession, zone time and had some good looks/opportunities. The Apes turned the momentum with two quick back to back goals, sixteen seconds apart inside the final minute to take a two goal lead. Both goaltenders played well. It was 3-1 Salmon Arm after 40 minutes of play. Shots were 11-10 Vernon.
