Jacksonville Icemen Add Ex Vipers Coughlin & Martin To Protected List:

The ECHL Jacksonville Icemen announced the team’s protected list of

players from the 2024-25 season.  This is the first of a several-step process that ECHL teams use to begin building their rosters for the 2025-26 season. The Icemen have twenty one players listed on their Protected List, two are former Vernon Vipers forwards Liam Coughlin & Craig Martin.

The ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) is a minor professional ice hockey league based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, with teams across the United States and Canada. Competitively, it is a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The league serves as a farm system to the AHL and the National Hockey League (NHL).

Coughlin played the 2024-25 season with the Jacksonville Icemen, his first season with the Icemen. The Icemen signed Coughlin August 14th 2024. In 50 games last season, Coughlin collected (15-goals-16-assists-31-points).

The Icemen is Coughlin's eighth team since 2019. Coughlin played four seasons at Vermont University from 2015-2019 before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Rockford IceHogs May 19th 2019.

Vipers Alumni Jandric & The Lions Win Kelly Cup:

Jandric has split the 2024-25 season with the ECHL Trois-Rivières Lions & American Hockey League Laval Rocket. Jandric was named to the ECHL Eastern Conference selection for the 2024-25 Midseason All-Star Team.

Former Vernon Vipers forward Brent Dodinghorse wins NHL's Willie O'Ree Community Hero Award.

Dodginghorse was elected as councillor with the Tsuut’ina Nation in 2008. He is the current Portfolio holder for companies, working along side Tsuut’ina Contracting, Sarcee Developments, Sarcee Gravel and the Emergency Response Team to name a few.

Dodginghorse started the 1997-98 season with the USHL Omaha Lancers before joining the Western Hockey League Calgary Hitmen in 1997. Dodginghorse played two seasons with the Calgary Hitmen before signing his first professional contract in 1999 with the ECHL Johnstown Chiefs. Dodginghorse played two seasons in the ECHL from 1999-2001 with the Johnstown Chiefs & Pensacola Ice Pilots before retiring from professional hockey in 2001.

Dodginghorse played two seasons in Vernon from 1995-1997. The Vernon Vipers traded Dodginghorse in the summer of 1997. (I don't remember the actual trade) In 111 games with the Vipers, Dodginghorse collected (53-goals-82-assists-135-points).

 forward Dane Jackson new Head Coach.

Jackson has spent the past nineteen seasons at North Dakota as an Assistant Coach & Associate Head Coach. 

Jackson played four seasons at North Dakota from 1988-1992 before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Hamilton Canucks in 1992. Jackson was drafted 44th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in Round 3 at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Jackson played four seasons in the NHL with Vancouver, Buffalo & the New York Islanders from 1993-1998 before retiring from professional hockey in 2003.

Jackson played one season in Vernon with the 1987-88 Vernon Lakers. In 49 games with the Lakers, Jackson collected (24-goals-30-assists-54-points).

The Vernon Lakers were one of seven different names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since 1961. The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1995.

rights to 19 year old defenceman Landon Young and 18 year old goaltender Spencer Michnik from the Sherwood Park Crusaders as future considerations, completing a trade from February 9th 2025.

On February 9th 2025 The Sherwood Park Crusaders acquired the playing rights to 20 year old defenceman Marko Stojkov from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for the playing rights to 19 year old defenceman Eddie Revenig and 17 year old forward Michael Munroe and future considerations.


Young split the 2024-25 season with the Western Hockey League Wenatchee Wild & Victoria Royals. Young has played parts of the past three seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Winnipeg Ice, Wenatchee Wild & Victoria Royals. The Royals signed Young December 2nd 2024. On February 10th 2025 The Vernon Vipers acquired the playing rights to 20 year old forward Ryan Watt and 17 year old forward Finn Kallay from the Victoria Grizzlies in exchange for the playing rights to 20 year old forward Will Schumacher and 19 year old forward Georgios Stavrianeas and future considerations.


Burns played parts of the 2023-24 & 2024-25 seasons with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Steinbach Pistons before signing with the Brooks Bandits December 27th 2024. The Bandits traded Burns to the Vernon Vipers February 10th 2025 for forward Luke Bibby. Burns never reported to the Vipers and re-joined the Steinbach Pistons for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
