Herbst was drafted 62nd overall in round 3 of the NAHL Entry Draft by the Jamestown Rebels.
Herbst was eligible to return to Vernon this season but didn't. Herbst played parts of one season in Vernon (2019-20). The Vipers acquired Reilly Herbst October 10 2019 from the United States Hockey League Chicago Steel. In 34 games last season with the Vipers, Herbst went 20-10 with 1 shutout and a 2.91 GAA
