The question is, did the Vipers actually sign these kids or have they been loaned to the Vipers via there Western Hockey League teams? If these three young men have been signed and can play the entire season in Vernon, then these could be very big pickups for the Vipers. If these three young men have been loaned to the Snakes and have to return to the Western Hockey League, once the season starts, I don't see the point in bringing in a player who will only be here for a month or so.
I really liked Josh Prokop as a rookie with the Vipers and was sad to see the kid leave, but super excited he's returning. Not only has he matured and gained some experience at the Major Junior Hockey League level but has put up some good numbers with the Hitmen. Bringing in not only a player that has already played here, will bring in some experience, leadership and hopefully some goals/scoring.
Other then looking at his stats, I don't know much about Tyler Carpendale. Due to injury, he only played eight games with the Blazers last season. Other then playing in 60 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds two seasons ago, he only played in 19 games the previous year. Sounds like he has been either injured or wasn't getting the playing time in two out of the last three seasons. I like his size and age/leadership but only playing in 87 games the past three years, what kind of experience will he bring to the Vipers and can he stay healthy? What can we expect from Carpendale? Looking forward to seeing what he can do this weekend.
When the Vipers first signed Koen MacInnes yesterday, I wondered why. I thought the Vipers goaltenders have played well this pre-season and goaltending wasn't the Snakes problem so far. If your going to bring in another goaltender, why wouldn't you bring in a veteran 19 or 20 yr netminder? My problem with MacInnes is he's only 18. Most kids that come to the BCHL from the Dub at 17 or 18 yrs old, most likely don't last the season and land back in the Western Hockey League. We have seen it lots in past years here in Vernon. Will MacInnes stay with the Vipers for the full season? Or will the Blades trade his rights and the next team that acquires him, dangle the carrot and Koen will jump ship and head back to the Dub? MacInnes put up solid numbers with the Blades last season. Now if this kid can stay in Vernon and play the full season, then this isn't a bad deal. The Vipers get a younger goaltender at 18 but one who has Major Junior Hockey experience over two very young kids they have now that never played a full season of Junior hockey before this year. I have always liked to go with that veteran 19 or 20 yr old goaltender, but those are hard to find. My biggest concern is will MacInnes stay here and play the full season? I'm hoping he gets a start in goal this weekend, so we can see what the kid looks like.
The Snakes went from going with a young team to adding three players with Western Hockey League experience and bringing in two veteran 20 year olds. I don't mind bringing in a kid from the Western Hockey League but as long as he will last the season. The Vipers did very well last season bringing in some key Western Hockey League players that played very well for Vernon (Jackson Caller, Dawson Holt & Landon Fuller) Hunter Donohoe was also brought in from the WHL but I think he was more of a liability last season then a key piece to the Vipers roster.
For a team that only made one trade over the off season, watched as most of the other teams across the league were super busy during the summer months, the Vipers sure have been busy the past few days. Will we see more deals coming?
You missed the point diehard. NOBODY with any other options wanted to come play for this management team. The word is out, avoid them at all costs. The WHL players have no other option if they want to play hockey. If they had wanted to be a Viper they would have been here at the start of the exhibition season. I feel for the suckers who gave Jane Glen several thousand dollars to play and will now be cast aside. If only we could do the same with Jane, Tom and McGoo.
Josh is a great kid, well I suppose he is a young man now. I'll never forget the Christmas card he gave me before leaving for the WHL. I look forward to seeing him again when he comes in to get his skates sharpened and seeing him light up the opposition on the ice. Welcome back Josh!!!
